Bob Sky Knives

It's funny how thing go around in circles. When I was a kid, i collect factory pocket knives. It was a common thing to hear some one say that a high quality knife will have brass liners. An expensive one will have n/s liners. Stay away from Stainless knives, with stainless liners. Mostly junk. And back then, they were. 50's, early 60's. If they were all stainless, they were usually from china, japan, Pakistan. ( Unlike now, Japanese knives were very poor quality). Now days things have reversed. I just had a vantage Loveless here in the shop, and the Brass and Stag together were striking! Not at all sterile like stainless. I use to use a lot of virgin cartridge brass. It was Beautiful. Nickel Silver has a nice soft glow that Stainless simply don't have. Stainless is still cheaper than N/s. In fact, now days, much cheaper. I think the dealers set the current thinking on this one. You have to take care of brass, and N/s. They want to sell knives, and make money. Not clean knives. It is a matter of convenience. no one wants to take the trouble to take care of things these days. It seems that the throw away mentality is creeping into every thing. Buy it. Use it. If it looks a little worn, or old, get rid of it. personally I like things with a little character. Like me- HeeHee! Mike

I agree, I own lots of knives with brass and nickle silver, love to set in front of the tv and polish em. Just another way to enjoy em. Funny, Randall Knives are 5 years behind in production ---only stainless guard they offer is on the Astro.

I have a Bob Sky knife, never thought a lot about it until a knife bug saw it and loved it. I know very little about collectable knives. Any info you may have about this knife would be greatly appreciated. It has etched on the blade by hand "Bob-Sky
10-76-5 ". Blade is about 5" and untouched. . It has a double edge with mirror finish. The handle is made of some type micarta with a redish color adhesive. Knife and sheath is in excellent condition. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. PH 731 220 2627 address jack Wood, 8550 Big Sandy River Road - Camden, Tn 38320

I now own this one. Bob was apparently a VERY respected maker from Texas, and was a mentor and teacher to David Broadwell, among others.

When I purchased this one from a member here, I asked David Broadwell for his thoughts. I saved them just for this occasion...:D

His filework is consistently shown on most of his knives, so they are easy to spot.

Others will know more.
Love that.
