I was wondering what opinion anyone else has on Terzuola Knives - especially his newer line of smaller, pocketable pieces. He is now dovetailing the liner lock into the sideplate, which reduces overall thickness of the knife. Any comments on this?
Thanks.

I bought an ATCF (w/micarta scales and bolsters) from Mr. Terzuola about a year and a half ago and since then, it has become my primary knife. I literally carry it everywhere.

I own many folders and this is the finest.

Also, at the knife shows, I handle many custom tacticals that belong to the same niche as Terzuola's knives and they feel slightly inferior.

Many people on the forums laude the Sebenzas as impeccable without any mention regarding the merits of Terzuola knives - It is because they are not in the same league. In fact, very far from it! Overal quality as well as price. My ATCF cost me $475, Sebenzas go for $325. I thought I was mentally deficient for spending almost $500 on a folder. In fact it still sounds ridiculous, but you get what you pay for.

The precision and quality is first class. The bushings are ultra smooth and the weight is just perfect. If the bolstered model is too heavy, there are lighter alternatives.

His gentlemen's folder's are just as beautiful. The apex of a custom, functional pocket knife. I have yet to see a model with a dovetailed liner, but, if anything, it sounds like an improvement.

But keep in mind, this is how the knife feels in my hand. It will be a different experience for everyone. Regardless, the master craftsmanship is clearly evident.

If you are seriously thinking about purchasing one, just buy it...it is absolutely worth it.

Bob used to recess the liner lock into the side on his older folders too. I have a TTF1 circa 1987 that was built that way. It really doesn't seem to effect the thickness all that much (approx .030"-.050")but it does appear to make it easier to fix the lock if it should have problems since its easier to pull out and replace a roughly rectangular piece than a locking liner that matches the contour of the knife handle. I've examined a couple of his new line (I forget the names) at cutlery shop and both of the two I looked at closely, had the recessed liners moving a little further across the width of the blade than I prefer but the things locked up.
It also appeared that the newer liner locks of his are "sprung" a little lighter than they used to be, they still work though. However if you have the type of hands that tend to move the liner lock when gripping the handle you might end up w/some inadvertant unlocking. If you can try to handle one in person I think thats the only way you'll be able to tell if its for you. Otherwise most of Bobs stuff is first rate.

I have a Terzuola, a 3.5"-bladed version of the ATCF. It's one of the ones he made when he was 50, I guess, because it's got a little gold medallion in the blade. All titanium handles. The workmanship is excellent. I love the blade shape, the handles feel nice, and it's very smooth. The liner lock, the usual problem area on custom folders, is absolutely rock solid; however, it does show some wiggle if I white-knuckle the knife.

I didn't know his prices were up to $475 on the ATCF! I know he's got a very long waiting list. Anyway, I'm sure his knives are worth whatever is being asked for them. But keep in mind you're dealing with a guy who has put in his time and now reaps the rewards of a well-deserved reputation. You're catching a master at his peak, and it looks like you'll pay for it!

Joe, The titanium handled ATCF's are still $375. My model has micarta scales and titanium bolsters, so the price is jacked up $100.

I really love his knives so I'm trying to get my hands on a Century Star Fighter - a beautiful folder that would serve as a great pocket knife!

Superb, very strong knives. Great blade on the ATCF. I only wish the clip were at the top. My only complaint is limited ability to special order.
