BOB vs E&E bag ?

The old forum set aside for that seemed to fall apart under the weight of "don't give a sh*t" by everyone that said they wanted to participate but instead stayed here for the most part.

Is that what it was closed down for?

I loved that part of the forum. Didn't post a whole lot, but I got a lot of practice in, especially with certain....practice boards....that were suggested.

IMO when the forum got away from knife and gear talk is when most of the audience left. Most people would rather talk about toys than how to use them.

I don't know the precise reason why it was shut down. I think Jeff has so much going on that he didn't need just one more thing drawing attention away from other things that were more important to the success of the business.

Did you make yourself a board? If so, I am incredibly proud of you and I hope you continue onward with that. :)

The RAT Pack is only available from Jeff and Mike's website. It has the Fire Kit and a knife sharpener included in the pouch and your choice of a 5 (SERE) or a 6 to go with it. The pouch is not available as a stand alone purchase.

They also have the Basic and Advanced E&E Kit, whole different thing, there. :)

same damn thing in my book-either way I'm grabbing the same Eberle Operator from the broom closet, throwing some softsoled mocs on my feet and heading north at a ballsbusting pace.

What kind of mocs would those be? Always been interested

Minnetonka-I own three pair, at 40 bucks a pop I probably have close to 1500 miles on my first pair and the soles are just starting to give out. This hunting season I'll take a nice doe and save the hide for re-lacing new soles on them-for the money they can't be beat. Order one full size smaller than you're used to if you will be using them for outdoors use, the leather tends to stretch and conform to your feet. If you order them your typical size they will stretch and become loose, which makes for fine house slippers but... I use them for everything from bouldering to hunting/tracking to backcountry backpacking and they are by far the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet.

I refrain from all those expressions and just call it a GO bag. BOB, BIB, E&E, or just a day hike. My gear is based on self reliance, not where I'm going or under what circumstances.

Talking about hitting the nail on the head. The same situation seems to apply to a lot of "Self Defense" forums. It's a lot easier to be a gear qu@@r, than to actually put the stuff you own to some practical use.

I have friends who are actually aghast, aghast I say, when they see me using some of my toys to do such mundane chores as yardwork, or a home improvement project.

As if using a Woodsmans Pal is any less a test of it's usefullness by trimming branches on a tree on your property as opposed to chopping tree limbs in the woods. I've made discoveries about certain tools just by using them around my home or in my yard that without a doubt saved me what would have been a lot of grief if it had happened someplace else.

Absolutely unbelievable! Then again, it is always easier to buy something, rather than learn how to do something. :jerkit:

That Jungletraining.com board really boiled down hundreds of posts you might see here in a week to about a dozen solid posts a week. I think it's still there for people to read, but no posting.
