Bobcat killed one of our ducks

I should've taken some pictures of the duck laying upside down in the water basin. It's chest cavity was torn open. This was a 13 pound Pekin drake, and it left me wondering what it was that killed it. The other 5 drakes and 6 ducks were fine, and none of the chickens were bothered.

I found the duck about 0700 yersday morning. A few minutes later I was out by the pool, near the back fence. There was a rock in the pool area, so I just picked it up and tossed it out over the fence and into the desert. Right then I saw the bobcat. The rock startled him and he ran off. My daughter and I went out the back gate and cut his sign. Sure enough, he was the culprit. I followed it around to the side and then lost it...about 15 yards where he would've jumped the fence into the drake pen. The ground is hard-packed (ducks do that) so there was no sign in there or directly behind the fence.

The Glenfield .22 stays on a rack near the back door, magazine loaded, along with a flashlight and my trusty SIG P226......just in case. If I get him, there'll surely be some pics (hmmmm....well, maybe not...that would be evidence, now wouldn;t it?) ((( :D )))

They are hell on chickens too. I have shot several around the chicken house.

We have a mule...or donkey...I never can remember the difference...out at the farm. It has stomped the living hell out of coyotes and bocats both...Next time I will show ya a pick of that...Those damn things are incredibly protective of the cattle...

Mule is the size of a smaller horse, a donkey is a wee critter usually gray in stature as in Sicilian Breed. Probably the donkey as they don't like to be messed with. Mules tend to be too big for bobcats and coyotes to mess with IME having raised both mules and donkeys.

Raccoons can devastate a chicken or duck coop too.
