We once shot up, cut up a smelly old vest that had long seen its best. As I recall a spyderco knife was used to disect it for inspection. Scissors worked well on the thin sheets of material once separated.
We also proved little, but it was fun anyway.
Those hard nylon ropes, often orange, seem to cut best with a rough edge as when the blade is sharpenned with a DMT diamond stone. Nylon webbing, kevlar and ballistic nylon are in the same boat in my experience.
