body hammer to hawk project

this was one of my pops tools till i broke it throwing back when i was a teen.
its a "1416 proto head" marked US made.
i would like to turn this into a hawk.
probaly above my skill level thou.
anyways gunna read up on builing a simple fordge and go from there

Couple things. It is possible this tool is worth a bit. I have never seen one before, but I've seen 100's of shingle hatchets. There are handles made for tool like this, so perhaps you could rehandle it and sell it, (or keep to show your grand kids some day. I just reacquired my dads favorite axe from when I was a kid. My dad wasn't very good to me, but as some point any memory of being a kid is cherished), then buy a shingle hatchet or other cheap item like that.. a shingle hatchet can be made over without the forge.

Neg #2. Not knowing the exact steel composition you cannot correctly reharden a steel. so cannot make a hard hawk with anything. So a shingle hatchet can be made over an not over heat the 1" at the edge.
