I just finished adding 15 flawless (no cracks, voids or checks) blocks of Bog Oak from Ukraine. Beautiful black/charcoal coloring. These blocks were cut from a giant oak tree that died and fell into a swamp over 5000 years ago. As the wood was buried in mud and sediment it absorbed the minerals and turned this black color. The log these blocks were cut from was carbon dated to be 5460 years old. A copy of the carbon dating report will be included with these blocks.

Everything in the store comes with a "No questions asked, Money Back Guarantee".
Free US Shipping. International shipping is a flat rate of $20 or free if your order is over $100.
The store software is programed to give volume discounts of 10% for orders over $200, or 20% for orders over $500.

Click on the photo to see the Bog Oak blocks that are currently available. If you miss out on this batch, I will be cleaning and adding some more to the web store in a couple days. In real life the blocks look darker than they do in this photo.

I have added some more blocks of stabilized Bog Oak to the store.
There are currently 10 blocks available.
And I will be adding the final 6 blocks from this batch tomorrow.

Mark, will you have more blocks of this down the road?
Or, is this something we can hope to see as a standard offering from you?
It is truly awesome material.

I still have a couple dozen blocks to get stabilized so there will be more in the near future.
Plus I am trying to keep it as a regular thing.
Before I found the guy in Ukraine that I am getting this from I was very frustrated with any bog oak I could find.
It all had a bunch of checks and cracks.
This guy is processing it correctly and all the wood from him is without flaws.
So as long as he can provide what he has been so far, I will keep buying from him.

This is really beautiful wood and goes so well with a lot of blade styles - especially damascus where you don't want a busy / active figure to "compete" with the damascus pattern. Plus, the cool factor of using a 5000 year old chunk of wood is just off the charts. I'm glad you found a reliable supplier because this stuff isn't easy to find.

In your opinion, how important is it to stabilize this wood? I actually just ordered a natural block from your webstore so I'll get a chance to play with it soon enough but does the bog oak have any tendency to shrink or swell?

People have been using the Bog Oak both ways. If you are going to carve or texture the wood then natural is the way to go.
I have cut thin strips of the unstabilized and left them sitting around and they didn't move.
I have a knife with the natural Bog Oak and one with the stabilized Bog Oak.
The biggest plus with the stabilized is that it is easier to get a smooth finish.
