Nothing wrong with n690 I like it but m390 is completely worth it if I had the choice. I'd still buy blades in n690 otherwise it's great too.
 
Isn't N690 basically a close Euro cousin of VG-10?
 
From what everyone had been saying and from the things I've read. Yes it is a close cousin to VG10, also like 154CM. But I don't have any experience with N690 so I can't say for sure.

Yeah, N690 and VG10 are very similar. Both great steels. N690 has a tiny bit more chromium, but very very similar.

My understanding is that the cobalt content is what differentiates VG-10 and N390 from some of the other cast stainless blade steels.
 
I bought my G3 today! It will be arriving probably on Saturday or Monday. I'll give my first impressions soon as it arrives. I have to cut a lot of firewood in the coming weeks. So it will be used for making kindling. I'll let you all know how I like it after that.

My G3 arrived on Saturday. I've had a chance to use it quite a bit in only a day. I processed a bunch of boxes we had just sitting around. The knife cuts like a dream, and is not uncomfortable for me. As of now I really like the knife and the scuttle carry on the belt is awesome. Great steel great knife!
