Boker and auto knives

Any Boker/Magnum knife that is an automatic was converted by a third party.
Basically, somone buys the knife from us as a non-auto, drops a spring in it, and resells it.
TH, no need for deletion, what you said is accurate, thanks for helping out.
Thanks, Terry

or it was sold via Boker, outside the US, then imported illegally by a 3rd party. Point is, you didn't buy it new from Boker USA.

I own a Boker Magnum automatic. I was told when I bought it that if it had a nail groove on the blade it was converted. Conversely, if it lacked a nail groove, it was made automatic at the factory. Any truth to this?
By the way this is a great knife. Comfortable in my hand. Stays sharp.

No, there is no truth to that.
It is always the way I stated in this thread, Boker USA does not sell, import, or provide service for any kind of auto.
Thanks, Terry

I have the black handled silver bladed Boker Automat Kalashnikov w/AUS-8 blade just before they illegalized the military purchasing rights in michigan. Of course im not military, but I still worked at the store that got them in..

I bought my most recent Boker in Austria six months ago and had no problem bringing it back to the states. They are legal in my home state and actually autos are being sold by Cabelas and the like.

Sir,
That may well be, but all the information I posted in here is still the case.
You being able to bring the knife from overseas is not the same as trying to import hundreds of them.

BTW, welcome to BF.
Terry

In Virginia it is legal to own, but not carry switchblades. I don't know about Ohio. If your friend attempts to sell this knife, he should be aware that it is illegal to mail a switchblade through the U.S. mail. That said, you can find switchblades for sale on ebay from time to time.

You can have an auto in Ohio as long as the blade is less than 6", also, you better have the pocket clip showing unless you have a concealed carry permit.

Terry, is there any truth to the rumour that Boker is considering using rivets instead of screws to prevent the conversion of its button and top locks?

No, that is not the case. It would be needlessly complicated, and more expensive. What we did is, change the internal handle design.

Thanks, Terry

So are you saying that if somebody wanted to convert a boker into an automatic, they won't be able to. Or is that only for the safety switch?

By the way, is there somewhere I can purchase an aftermarket safety switch for a non-auto boker 74. If I wanted to test the fit when installed on a converted auto.

Thanks

Yes, that's what I'm saying. We had to do this to comply with the law.

And we no longer have the safety slides available, as the new design does not use them.
Terry

I understand that the safety mechanism isn't on any new Boker knife produced, but....

When you say that you changed the internal handle design, which does that prevent the installation of

a)the safety mechanism

or

b)the installation of a spring to convert to an automatic

Actually, they are two separate issues.
Since it is illegal for us to deal with automatics, or knives that are easily converted, we no longer have a cavity in the knife to accept the spring.
Secondly, since the knife has no need of it, there is no requirement for the safety, so we are leaving it off.
Hope that makes sense.

Sir,
I will not delete your post, as that is not what a forum is about.
But, as you can see, it has been posted here since we started the forum, and it is posted on our website, and printed in our catalogs, that we do not sell automatic knives, never have, and, despite what you wish to believe,
it is against federal law to import them, or send them across state lines.
And as stated in the post right above yours, we changed the design, so the knives are not easily convertible,

Sorry you are unhappy, but we can not do anything with these knives.
