long story short I have a Gareth bull on order with the lip opening mechanism and couldn't wait any longer to experience the lip opening so I picked up a boker Exskelibur 1.

I was weary of ordering one before I purchased because It was made by boker and Ive heard terrible things about the fit and finish. Well I'm glad I did because this knife is a great knife for the price!

Pros:

1) solid lock up (yes very solid lockup.... yah I was suprised too)

2) beautiful anodized pocket clip and liner

3) titanium pocket clip and liner

4) contoured g10 (same way strider does there cc)

5) very sharp and consistent bevels out of box (can push cut phone book paper)

6) Unique opening mechanism

7) fairly water friendly knife (stainless blade titanium and g10)

8) great high hollow grind (good for food prep)

9) tip up or down clip. (lip in tip up could be used as a wave)

10) lock up is only about 40% new. (but its good for a thin blade)

11) blades finish. (looks like a very well done hand rubbed finish)

12) although there is only one liner the knife is very rigid.

cons:

1) lip mechanism is tears thumbs up (just needs a little getting used to)

2) Made in china

3) Hardware has crappy heat treat

4) proprietary pivot tool is needed. (Mine came with one but some people do not get one with the knife)

overall,

for what you pay you get a really nice unique knife with great lockup and feel. It's easy on the eyes too :D

Pictures to follow if anyone is interested.

also I will be buying a custom burger as well after experiencing this

There is a place about 1/2 mile from me that sells some really delicious custom burgers. Beef and sausage combined. Mmmm Mmmm good. Thanks for reminding me. :D

As for the knife, I'll pass. Too small for my tastes.

:) I have a couple of those shops around here too...

I thought the knife would be small but its quite big. exact same size of my para 2

The boker is a copy of one if not my favorite knife the Burger Lexk. The Lexk has thicker Ti liners etc ect. I will never buy a boker and only support the original designer and maker, in m eyes the boker is like buying a chinese Sebenza. The Build quality on the burger is flawless. Trust me save your money and get the Burger.

I had an original Burger LEXK for a time and then sold it on (stupidly). It was a quality knife all the way and a pleasure to use.

Luckily they are just down the road from me, so getting another one isn't a hassle. For once! :p

See I think its a little different.... at least boker has Mr.Skellern and Mr.Burgers permission to use the design (unlike the fake sebenzas). I don't like the fact however that it was made in china as stated above.

I will be buying a custom LEXK when funds allow! love this design

what makes you say it is poorly heat treated? have you put the edge through its paces? have you sharpened it a couple times to potentially remove bad steel from an overheated edge from power sharpening?

if it really does have a bad heat treat why in the world would you recommend it? the steel, grind, and heat treat should be the main factors in having a knife unless your only knife use consists of fondling it. I don't get it.

for the record I've never held a knife from this maker, and will probably never own one. Just curious about your reasonings.

He's referencing the hardware, i.e. the screws, which are not hardened and thus are easy to strip and snap.

Its already been said by Misanthropia but I was referencing the hardware. The blade seems like it has been heat treated pretty well.

I had one, and I sent it back for a refund. Right out of the box the liner lock locked up all the way over and touched the other liner.

Personally I've had too many Boker knives recently that were crap. Not buying anything from them anymore.

I've got 2 large Exskeliburs as well as the large and small Exskelimoors. Excellent knives for the price. I especially like the Exskelimoors although they are a bit thicker in the handle.

This thread has piqued my interest, but upon following that up with video reviews,
the Exskelibur II seems to have caught my attention. Boker Plus, has my arm hairs
tingling with hesitation, now comes the part of convincing myself that at under $40-
it might be worth the risk. Tik tok, tik tok, tik tok...

yah I was glad mine had great fit and finish. But I can understand your frustration with boker. They dont have a very good track record.

I spent an entire year with the knife being on the back burner because I purchased a Gareth bull. I thought that would curb my craving for this lip mechanism but I have yet to receive the knife form Gareth and got impatient. I went back to the exskelibur and figured 50 bucks wasn't that much, plus I had ebay bucks to spend so I got it for next to nothing.

I would try it and worst comes to worst return it to the dealer if you dont like it.

I have both the Exskelibur 1 & 2, and the Exskelimoor 1 & 2. They are really quite nice knives. The Exskelimoor 1 that I have has the maple scales, and the 2 has bog oak (darker) scales. 440C is certainly no super steel, but it's not crap mystery metal either. My Exskelimoor 1 is my go to knife when I know that I'm going out for a steak diner. It's a really good slicer, and it's more elegant than threatening in a public setting.

The lip mechanism doesn't protrude as far on the Exskelibur II,how does that affect
the ability of the blade to be opened? Basically, I'm wondering how minimal is the
pressure required to open it, is it to the point of imprinting the jimping on my thumb?

How is the Boker Plus 440c? Is it real 440c or one of the Chinese copies like 8cr13mov? 440c with a decent HT is a good steel and very underrated.
