boker opinions

thanks for the advice, i guess i'll stay away from the china ones and maybe pick up new case/fleabay german bokers/70's case, sounds like a plan ?

The fit and finish on a lot of the Chinese slip joints is actually pretty good, very good considering the price point. One of the best suggestions I've heard here is to try out the different patterns with more inexpensive brands like Magnum, Steel Warrior or Rough Rider. Then when you find a pattern you really like you can look for a nicer one like Schatt & Morgan, Case, GEC or Canal Street.

I can't speak to the Boker slipjoints made in China, but I do have a Boker Plus (China) Air Force Survival Knife. Its a great knife. Very good to excellent fit and finish and SK5 steel to boot. The only complaint I have is that it came with a left handed sheath. It really is an excellent sheath knife. Picture from the Boker site.

I like Bokers very much; they have an extensive carbon blade lineup compared to Case, and the fit/finish is comparable to Case, if ever so slightly below. I had a Copperhead that I traded away, and I have a beaten to death, 3" stockman that I found in the road once. It is missing the pen blade, shield, and has a badly cracked scale but what's left of it is still perfectly functional!

The only reason I don't have more is that I have really whittled down my number of knives and am only keeping ones that I use regularly or have sentimental value.

I don't own many slipjoints, but I do have a Boker Solingen trapper. I've got nothing bad to say about it. The carbon steel takes a keen edge and holds it pretty well, although it needed a good bit of thinning out when I first got it. The snap's a little lighter than a SAK.
