How is the quality of Boker plus line of knives, and does anyone own a Gitano folder, what are pros and cons of this knife. How is Bokers 440c generally, edge holding and sharpenability, is it real quality440c or one of 8cr13mov variety steels.

I have 3 Boker Plus knives: a Gnome, a Ridgeback and a Gamma.

Quality on them is quite good, but obviously not on the same level as higher end knives as far as fit & finish. The unique designs are the real selling point for me, especially on the collaboration models.

I found the 440C a bit harder to sharpen than S35VN, but i am a beginner as far as sharpening goes, so it could be due to my own lack of skill.

I have had quite a few boker plus knives. And from my experience they look great but most of them left me wanting in some regards. But know I am incredibly picky when it comes to fit and finish. The average user of knives would probably be very content with the quality. I am inclined to believe the 440C they use is a chinese equivalent. There was some discussion about it when they first started claiming 440C. The reality is even if they are using a 440c equivalent they technically can call it 440C as long as its composition falls in line with what 440c is as no one owns the right to the name. Its not like s30v where Crucible owns that name and no one can call their steel that but them. I will say I have never had a genuine 440C rust on me but I have had boker plus 440C rust. My biggest beef though is the locks. I have had serious lock slip from a couple of their knives. A field marshall I had you would apply pressure to the spine and it the liner would slip over. It wouldnt fail but it did move. The only other issue I have is that you could buy 10 of the same knife and 2 will be perfect. Another two will have minor issues and the rest should never have left the factory. Which to me seems they have some people assembling that arent as good as others. You will get production variance no matter what you buy but for boker it seemed a bit extreme. Now that is mostly the chinese stuff. The taiwan made boker plus knives like the kwaiken? Amazing.
