I have a Boker Copperhead folder. The clip blade is marked "King Cutter", "2626", and "Boker Solingen Germany". It has bone or stag handles with a shiled with a tree and "Solingen". Can anyone tell me what steel this uses, and what the bolsters are made of?

My thanks.

Nope. I saw that one, but it's not it. This one has much lighter handles. But thanks for the try.

Forget about the handles for a minute. Look at the pictures of the blades. Is that the same number on the blades? Does it look similar. The basic pattern could have bone, or wood scales, various colors etc., but the model number often stays the same. The one I linked to is their basic copperhead design.Some are etched, some frosted but the basic shape and measurements are the same. I have one like it, but in red smooth bone. Same knife, different scales.

If you look here http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BO2626SRBI at the knife I have, notice the style number 2626 with the identifiers for that version, or model if you will.

Every year or two they typically come out with new models of the same styles. At times they overlap, and of course a particular store could still have models from 3 or 4 years ago in stock. The basic style is the same though. It's a Boker Copperhead.

I believe the stainless version of the copperheads have the identifier 4626, instead of 2626 on the carbon steel versions of the copperhead. example of stainless here http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BO4626

It could be 1.4034 steel on both 2626 and 4626. These knives are listed with this steel on the Boker website, but there might have been some changes in the past. I guess it would be best if you asked Boker directly to be on the safe side. Just my 0.02...

If it its a Copperhead Appalousa (112626);

with lighter coloured bone;

http://www.boker.de/us/index.php?c=82,1,16&a=112626AB&p=&pp=0

it has got C75 Carbonsteel (= 1075 steel)

If it is a red bone copperhead (112626 also):

http://www.boker.de/us/index.php?c=21,1,16&a=112626&p=3&pp=20

It has got Solingen Stainless steel which mostly is (1.)4034

Can't help you on the bolsters. You could shoot Terry Trahan an email (boker usa). He can be contacted in the Boker subforum overhere too.

Copperhead Grand Canyons also come in C75 Carbonsteel.(2626GRC)

stag copperhead (2626HH) and Tortoise (2626TOR) also C75.

;)

1.4034 steel is a different designation for 420J2. I can do without that for blades, though it's ok for frames & stuff.

The one I have is C75 carbon steel. It's a good basic carbon steel. If I'm not mistaken C75 is also the steel used in the carbon steel opinels. Joe
