Hey evryone, i have a boker stockman of unknown age here, and being a woodworker i could find uses for it. however i dont want to use if for some carving and wear it out so it gets all loose.. anyone have input?

I whittle with my Boker whittler, and so far she serve me well. But I'm not a serious carver / whittler. This is my first spoon.

Boker Whittler's Penknife
Designed By A Carver For Carvers

The award winning decoy carver, Len Yule, has used the Boker Congress model 4-blade knife for years because of its high carbon steel blades. Len asked Boker if they could redesign the blades - aimed at the needs of the whittler. Boker did just that. Solid Brass liners and nickel silver bolsters. Len Yule endorses it as just what he was looking for - 4 beautiful blades, each for a different job. The closed length of the Knife is 3-5/8". Made in Solingen, Germany.

I've whittled with an old Boker Stockman and it's held up just fine. I prefer to whittle with somethig like a congress though because it's easier to control.

Now I want the one Esav posted, though.

I've always wondered can you whittle out the bowl of the spoon with the knife or do you have to use a chisel? What is the technique?

I don't know how anyone else does it, and I've only made two spoons, but I used the spey blade and took out very small slivers. I cheated afterwards though and sanded it smooth.

yes you can, like on my spoon above I just make a lot of parallel cut on the wood then make another series of parallel cut perpendicular to the first ones, then remove the wood little by little, by repeating the process you will get your bowl, not so pretty but it still looks like a spoon :)
