Hey guys I got to looking at the boker trance last night and for thirty bucks I just couldnt stand it. I had to order it. So while i'm waiting for it.
What is so special about this knife for you guys? Why do you like it so much?
Thanks

To name a few: comfortable handle, takes a great edge, easy to sharpen, flipper is addictive, Chad Los Banos the designer is great guy, etc. I have beat the snot out of mine and it still locks up tight and flicks open. One of the best buys out there.

How's the edge retention on it?

Does it scare you guys too, when you like a thirty knife so much. And you've got two hundred dollar knives that might lose carry time because of it? Hehe

I would consider spyderco tenacious at the same price. I own both and find the spydrtco superior

It is a compact folder with great carry ability. If you like thin folders and framleocks, then I think you will like the Trance. Because the blade is broad and thin, it is capable of being ground down to have a very thin edge. This is what allows for excellent slicing ability. I don' t care much for flippers in general. And the one on the Trance takes a bit more effort to operate due to pressure exerted by its respective frame slab and strong ball detent. It' s a good working folder at a more than fair price tag.

Aarong thanks for te comparison. I do have the tenacious and absolutely love it. Thats what I was wondering last night because I really do like the tenacious alot.

Nakano thanks for the help. I dont have a framelock yet so this was another factor that pushed me toward getting it. I do like thin folders that fill the hands though. My stretch 2 so far is my favorite that I own.
I also dont have a boker yet so I decided that I want at least one.

The trance is a superb knife and for the price it can't be beat.

The blade is really thin AUS8 and super sharp. Feels really good in the hand and I think the half G10 half steel handle is cool.

i love my Boker trance, i use it for work to cut open boxes all day and it may be dirty from the tape residue, but once i clean that off its still sharp.. funny enough a couple of days ago i gave it a good sharpening and then used it to shave my beard lol (kids dont try that at home or anywhere else)... its a great little knife and the price tag on it is extremely affordable... when you get it you will be pleased :D

Cool make sure you post a comparison of the two sub $30 knives most people are debating for a cheap go to blade.

I have both the Tenacious and the Trance. Both a really nice in their own way. If I really had to choose, then I'd pick the Tenacious as it's a beefier knife; but on the other hand the slender Trance is easier to edc.

My fave at the price is still something different, and dare I say more classy: the light, strong and practical Eka Swede 88. In 3 versions at Ragweed Forge ($29, $31, $49 depending on the handle)

Exactly my thoughts. It would take hours for me to decide between those two. Some time ago I put bronze washers in my Trance to put it on par with the Tenacious and I love it even more. The Trance was one of my first purchases after I got infected with the virus we all know so well and in hindsight it was one of best purchases I've ever made.

good idea about the bronze washers. I should explore this as well, or perhaps looking for teflon washers which make Klotzli and Mcusta so smooth.

and... check out that Eka which I recommended!

What I love about this knife goes for just about all CLB designs.

They are thin, frame lock, cool looking, and fit the hand like it was meant to be.

The trance in particular though, I really like how easily it flicks open after awhile. Also the flipper acts as a guard to keep what you are cutting from hitting your finger, or your finger from hitting the blade edge.

It allows you to get your thumb way out over the back of the blade providing great leverage for a tough cut.

This can be an issue :D I look at all my knives that cost so much more and I think to myself "man, do I really need those when the Trance is so good for $30?"

Morales where did you get your bronze washers and what size are they?
Thanks
I actually won two pairs them last year. One pair went in my Trance, the other in my Monochrome. One member from messerforum.net made them for me in 0,5 mm thickness. I need to look up the other measurements, sorry. I will add them here.

I really like my trances, I have both blade shapes and I think they are great. The handle does feel a little thin during heavy work, but it also makes it carry very well.

J I think that is the key ingredient to an EDC. Being thin and easy to carry just makes you want to carry it even more.
