Hello I’m new here but have read a few posts and threads before. I’m not new to traditionals but I’m fairly new to bikers I got a few but have some questions. One, if the shield says Germany and not Solingen, does that mean the knife is not fully made in Germany and two, what is the deal with the blades on some that say classics and has the numbe 2525 under that? Are those collectible or what? Thanks Evan.

If I recall correctly, the parts are made elsewhere, but the knife is assembled in Germany if the shield says Germany. If the shield says Solingen, the entire knife is made in Germany.

The Böker 7588 stockman is one of my my favorite knives.

Zolthar is right about the shields. Only knives which say Solingen on them (either on shield or tang stamp) are completely made and assembled in Germany. The 2525 is just a pattern number, and the Classics were just the name of a release of knives. No special collectable that I know of, but they are very nice knives.

Here is a favorite of mine from the 1970s, a large stockman.

That’s a pretty nice looking knife. I also have a beer barrel trapper with the Boker classics engraving on it.

Hello Evan,
The fellas are right. Check the tang and the shield. If it does not say "Solingen" somewhere on it, then it is not fully made in Germany. My understanding is that that the blades on knives marked "Germany" are imported from China.

That being said. I have a Boker stockman marked "Germany". It has very nice fit and finish and good spring action on the blades. The springs are flat with the blades in both the opened and closed positions. The blade steel is the Chinese equivalent of 440A and is heat treated to a decent hardness. It's a nice knife and I have no qualms about carrying it.

This harkens back to basic knife manufacturing. At Camillus, there were guys who made the blades and dyed the bone. But they were not considered "cutlers". "Cutlers" were the ones who assembled the knives and were responsible for the final fit and finish.

Well in that case I have 4 Boker tree brand knives and only one in 100% German. The beer barrel one is the full German.

You may also run into some Boker Arbolito's which are made in South America. I forget exactly where..--KV

Looks like your question has been answered so I'll just add this. The soligen made knives are well done. Here is a little stockman.

So, if it says Germany, it's made in China. If it says Solingen, then it's made in Germany. If it says Arbolito, then it's made in Argentina.

But I have one with a bit of a twist. This full size Hunter is blade etched with "Arbolito Especial", and made in Solingen.

I didn't know anything about Boker knives but I did pick this up at a local gun/knife show last weekend, the dealer said it was confiscated at Hoover Damn security. Its a 8313 USA Boker Splitback Whittler. The delrin covers are in great shape and look more natural, which I really like these more than the brown delrin on case knives. I got for a $25.00 but I had no idea if it was worth more or not but it is a great little knife. It has been in my pocket ever since. I took it home scrubbed it with dish soap, flitzed, and oiled it up. The walk and talk is perfect, it reminds me of case xx knives with a loud "snap". Absolutely solid, no wobble. Blade pulls are a 6/7 which are perfect for me. I tried to do some research online about this but there is very little, I do know it was made in the seventies though. Its a great knife which I will be paying more attention to Boker pocket knives from now on.
