Hey all,

Any opinions or reviews of the Boker Gnome? I'm just starting to get into fixed blades, and I'm curious if anyone here uses this in their EDC.

Personally for me as an opinion since I don't have one. I do prefer a bit more handle for an edc fixed blade considering the stock is quite thick yet there's little leverage for any specific maneuvers other than draw cuts. That and how thin the grind is behind the edge factors into how well it'll cut as an edc fixed blade. For me, I would want something that slices well but could still handle heavier tasks Not sure what your budget is like but there are plenty of options such as the Blackjack necker, ESEE Izula 2, etc. Look around on the exchange for good deals from members. Just my two ¢~

I'm going to make a judgement call and say that I do not believe the gnome is a "traditional design". Moving to General Forum.

I found its handle to be too small, making cutting really difficult. Its fine for opening a box, and has a high cuteness factor, but IMO isn't a good EDC general purpose fixed blade (you'd rather carry a double-edge safety razor blade, than a Gnome). It also has a thick stock, which makes slicing difficult. If you need a small fixed blade, I'd recommend the ESEE Candiru.

I think a family member got that or something like last year. From what I recall it felt weird to hold as the handle was too small to be of any real use for any real work besides the occasional cardboard box of opening a package. We ended up picking up a Kershaw 1080OR for him for christmas which he loved so he had a proper fixed blade knife that he enjoy using for work. (That knife fit all the characteristics in what he was looking for in a knife and we were right and he loved it.)
