Boker?

ahh I see, what's the difference between 420 hc and 440c? I'm not super familiar with the blade hardness'.

the hardness can be different on each, its how you heat treat that determines hardness. I own an elmax blade at 58 rockwell hardness and i am going to buy one at 61 later (will make a massive difference.) Its the the general aspects of the steels. Each steel on the market is great (otherwise they wouldnt even bother using them and switch to aluminum lol) but in certain aspects and some are greater than other. My favorite use of 420 is in San Mai. I have a Kershaw Nakamura that has a VG10 core and clad in 420JS. the 420 gives it the great rust resistance. 420 is an odd steel in my opinion. I own a blue jig bone case trapper with a 2 inch blade and I can still shave with it because of how Case treats it. I have seen some 420 that I would use a spoon over them. but 440c is rarely done right

I got a Boker Karambit for $20 off Ebay, that's what they cost everywhere I think. I like it a lot. I collect knives. For my collection it's pretty much all made in US. I'm not gonna carry any of my nice Lone Wolf knives. Instead I carry some less expensive. Boker plus makes a good knife for low price, bottom line. The Karambit has 440c steel, it's fine, I get mine shaving sharp w/my sharpmaker. It has G10 on one side the other steel, it's solid. I love the grip on it. So I would recommend it, it's a very good value knife.

ya thats true. William henry and Fox (their civilian) are fantastic examples of that. But Mantis does not. They treat it the same way a chinese mass producer does it, the bare minium

440c is a good steel rust resistant but often times it is treated wrong. The heat treatment sometimes makes or breaks the blade (no pun intended)

TBH I highly doubt they would shell out the money on good steel, and just be content with 420hc which is far cheaper and while it too can be a good blade steel (op. Paul Bos HT/Buck) that requires more money then I bet Jared has

That chart doesn't seem to be very accurate. I've seen quotes of 4116 being a 55-56HRC and 12c28 being more hardable to the 59 range. AUS6 also is a 55-56.

I think thats more of a general range then a rock solid top RC level. the steel comp's arent always the same either there is some play. (op. Spyderco steel chart. you can see the variation in elements. ) A good example of this is L6. It can be called L6 with or without the manganese and Vanadium

I have a Boker plus mini Resurrection. I really like it a lot. The size and weight is similar to a ZT 030X. The blade holds an edge well and easy to sharpen.
The blade steel is 440c. The blade shape is similar to a ZT 030X.
