In my opinion, bolsters add some bling to the knife, like a pocket jewelry (shiny metal ). Without them, it feels like a working knife, e.g. Sodbusters.

Purely my opinion...

I like them both but when a shadow pattern features a cutlery rivet pivot you get a reliable and tough tool. That's why i consider the GEC Farm & Field lineup as a great contribution to the traditional cutlery. Time proven experience.

I like bolsters, purely from an aesthetic point of view. To me, a knife just doesn't look finished without one.
