Alright I've decided I'll probably be stepping up to a bomb proof folder. So seriously THE TOUGHEST folder ever, that's what I'm needing....Let's say I got $400 to spend.

Things I need
1. It's gotta withstand MONTHS of HARD USE, not abuse BUT HARD USE.
2. A sheath is a plus as I don't want $400 clipped to a pocket where someone could lift it or I could lose it.
3. A beast of a knife.
4. 4 INCH BLADE MAX, no more
5. It seems I'm asking for a strider........ But which one? Or maybe a ZT/Hinderer?
6. HUGE WARRANTY
7. NOT A CUSTOM.
8. VERY GOOD ergonomics, I gotta like using this expensive beast

It can cost less but no more, I want it too EAT CARPET ALL DAY. I just took my current EDC through a room of carpet (yeah VERY HARD USE...but not abuse) it's developed a SLIGHT blade play which annoys the piss out of me.

BTW this should be a test....GLUED on carpet is NO JOKE, forget wood/whittling.

Options are pretty open, hinderer, strider, 2 ZT's ?. Sebenza won't take that kinda HARD USE I'm sure but what will? Do 2 ZT's beat anything?

Options, and yes I am buzzing like a beehive, Just cracked a bottle of 67.4% bourbon. Delicious, but I am VERY serious about this.....been bothering me all day.

I wouldn't consider carpet eating as "hard use"; I've had a Mili stand up to lotsa carpet.

However, for carpet I think/suspect something in CPMS90V would stand up quite well. I found the S30V in the Mili to retain its edge pretty well-still tearing up the carpet for quite long, although it wasn't easy by any stretch. From what I have seen and heard S90V (and probably by extension S110V and S125V as well) do, it should handle the job better. (Most of what I heard came from Yablanowitz. IIRC he used a S90V Mili to cut sheet rock)

Maybe a Spyderco S90V Manix 2? I believe Country Knives still has some in stock well under your budget. Custom sheath as well.

Of course, it doesn't "feel" like a real beast as compared to say a Strider, but I have a suspicion that while a Strider will massively outperform the knife for ABUSE (That is, stabbing fridges, prying stuff) the difference when it comes to cutting carpet will be much less. I think the ball lock is self-adjusting for vertical play, so you shouldn't have to worry.

Ergos, of course, are subjective.

Dennis strickand has a great recomendation, check out crusader forge. Aside from that i think you need an hinderer xm-18

If you want "bomb proof," why does it have to be a folder? ...maybe something from Extrema Ratio... though I'd never buy one. I've owned a few "hard work" knives and of them all, my Sebenza is the one that shines through as the best knife. It is not the toughest, but it is tough and slices better than the others... It dopes what a knife is supposed to do and it excels at it. I would say that the CPM-M4 and super thick carbon fiber handles in my Gold Class Griptilian are also pretty bombproof.

i hope members are patient-- i'm computer dumb, this is a better pic of a bombproof folder .

I'll third the box cutter idea, even though thats not what you asked for.

Spray it yellow or orange to aid in identification.

And like Bier said, a ZT 0300 might do that trick if you are intent on a big, hefty hard use folder. That and the Strider AR are the first two that came to mind. When you say "beast", thats what I think of.

Cold Steel American Lawman, AK-47 if its the Triad lock model, and or the mini AK for that matter for cheap users. For the best the Triad lock Demko custom folders are going to be about the pinnacle for you. Talk to Andrew and get that hardest use bomb proof knife. He makes the closest thing you'll find to it. Here watch this video and then tell me any other model custom or production that you could do this to and still use. Go ahead try. I've looked and couldn't come up with any. A lot talk the talk. These are the only ones I've found truly walking the walk though. . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDDQGmW2Hrg

The only answer is the custom version although the custom I went with is the American Lawman model. found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNV6gNrObu4

And the best thing is you can pick the steel you want for what you need to do.

A bomb proof knife with the steel of your choice.

For carpet I would go with M4, VG-10, CPM 154 (Not 154CM) or S90V.

+1....

If you just want something to eat up carpet grab a S90V Mule, Manix 2, or Military. I'm sure you can still find them around.

As a former journeyman floor mechanic - there's nothing that meets your requirements - NOTHING! But I agree with:

Buy a boxcutter, it'll work better on carpet than any folder ever will.

That's what we used for 1000's of miles of linoleum and floor tiles - a Stanley Knife and lots of boxes of refills. The right tool for the job has to make sense.

They make machines for removing glued on floor coverings.

Options, and yes I am buzzing like a beehive, Just cracked a bottle of 67.4% bourbon. Delicious, but I am VERY serious about this.....been bothering me all day

Now I understand the question a little better. Your headache will probably be bothering you all day today. 3 aspirin and a large glass of water works miracles. :D

A $10 wood chisel works great for peeling glued-on carpet, linoleum, etc.; even the toughest folder just won't cut it in that situation. Use the right tool for the job, save your pennies for good bourbon and good blades.

You know you want the Strider.....do yourself the favor :D

Pick up a used SMF in the Exchange section of this forum, and you might even come out with some change in your pocket.

I hear everyone saying you're just cutting carpet, and yeah, I get that, but I also get the impression that you've hopefully thought about the box cutter option and are opting for a high quality folder for all of other situations in which such a tool can prove itself useful. ASSUMING (a dangerous thing) that to be the case, I'd put my recommendation down, going simply on the prerequisites you've set down here, as an SMF. It's in the size range you specified, it's legal to carry in most places in the states (which again, I'll assume here that that's where you are), and the chances of it failing are practically nil.

Line by line,

1.)Give it abuse. Hurt it, (I'd be very surprised) and they'll fix it.
2.)You can pick up a sheath for it, but I'll be honest, the pocket clip on these things is like a vice. I have to palm mine from the sides to make it easier to remove from my pocket, because pressure on the pocket clip only makes it hold tighter. Trust me, nobody is gonna lift it without you knowing about it.
3.)Heh, like I need to add anything here.
4.)Right on the mark if you include the finger choil, but for cutting edge, it's just under.
5.)Yup, you are. An SMF.
6.)If you don't already know Strider's warranty, take five minutes to visit there website. Or any other place that sells them. Or search this forum. Or ask pretty much anybody who's heard of them...
7.)They're loosely considered semi-customs, but are offered as a production line. You won't have to wait to get one, and as I mentioned, you can pick one up in the exchange for a good discount off of new. And the plus is, the more you beat these things up, the cooler they look, and it won't affect their performance.
8.)Options are available here. If you like a rounded, full handle, go with a CC (concealed carry model. Anyone selling will specify). You want something with a bomb-proof grip that might eventually eat your pants, go with a GG (gunner grip. Look this one up if you're unfamiliar with it). You're comfortable with boxier knife, pick up a standard and save yourself the few dollars on the others. I find it to be one of the more comfortable handles I've held, but to each their own.

And the final plus is, even after you've kicked the poodiddles out of it, you can get Strider to refresh it for you, then sell it for not much less than what you bought it for (maybe more if you got it from the exchange. I've gotten pretty smokin' deals from guys in there).

There's a lot of nice, tough knives in that price range, but for durability, few will touch this thing. And NO, I'm NOT a Strider fanboy, I am someone who beats and breaks most things that I own, and thus, am a fan of indestructibility.

I can't fathom you regretting this purchase...but stranger things have happened...
