Hi every one, I need some info on a product called Bonanza Gold available through Jantz Supply. It is used for back filling engraving. Has anyone used it before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Peter.

Peter, I'm moving it to shop; Keith was right...you'll be better answered there.

Thanks

Hello Peter

Lloyd Harding was experimenting with gold plating a couple of years ago.
He may have the name of a local contact.

I haven't seen any of your work for a couple of years since the last time I went to a show can you put in a link to your site if you have one. Or a picture of your latest. Your work is always a treat for the eyes.

When I worked in the gun business years ago, I had a friend use it on a rifle that had factory rolled in "engraving". IIRC, it is like an epoxy with gold colored flakes, or shavings mixed in. You fill the engraving, or what have you. Personally, I didn't like it, it looked cheap. But that's just my opinion.

I have not had much experience with gold inlay but a couple three years ago I used a rather inexpensive product (seems like about 20 bucks) from Brownells on a muzzle loader I built for a freind and a couple of my own firearms to inlay the factory markings. So far it still looks great on these and seems to have worn well.

You can see it on my web site (click on the rifle picture below) if you choose 'Building a Muzzle Loader' in the table of contents at the bottom of the home page and then choosing 'page five' at the bottom of that page.

It is a brush on product that I really did not have much confidence in when I first tryed it. I think now, after these few years of use, I would buy it again. I think it is either 14 or 18 carrot and is advertised as being jewler's gold. I really can't remember exactly. Check my site if you like.

Roger

Many thanks guys, sounds like it will do the job I have in mind.

Hi Reg, if I remember right, you're the bloke that talked me out of that boxed pair of fighters. If you can post a pic of them I would love to see them again. I don't have a site mate, too many headaches for me. The Guild Show is last weekend in May, could'nt talk you in to coming over to Melbourne could I? Bye all, Peter.

Peter, I bought one of Jantz's Bonanza Gold kits and used it a couple times. It works great and can add a real nice touch to the right project. It's cheap enough to, seems like it was just $5 when I bought mine. All it is is a cleaner, some gold pigment, and some laquer. You clean the area, put some of the laquer on the spot then add some pigment and work it into the engraving. Then before it dries, you wipe away the excess, set it aside to dry.

Peter
You probably will not remember me. The only show I have had a display was Perth 1995. I have been to a number of shows after that in Perth and seen your work. Your work always seemed to be a little more eligant and spectacular. It is a shame you don't have a sight.

I was the one hit wonder I was the bloke making barrel knives. I made 3 but none since.
