Bone Collector

I got ya, thanks for the info... can't wait to get it back, only had it for a few days before it went back so haven't had much time with it... glad to hear the liner actually is steel

First time Benchmade owner here, just got a Benchmade 300 in a trade and i love it. I'm now looking at buying a Bone Collector, specifically a Benchmade Bone Collector 15030-2 Plain Edge. My online dealer description lists this model as having a thumb-stud, is that correct? However the pic listed shows a thumb hole not a thumbstud. Do these even come in the thumbstud variety? I've done google image searches and all i see are thumbholes. I'd prefer the thumbhole but i'm reluctant to order it because i don't want to accidentally get one with thumbstuds. So does the dealer have the wrong picture listed or is the text describing the knife incorrect? Thanks!

The mini presidio is my favorite small folder to date. I'm certain most benchmades are tank like though. I've pried with the tip of a mini grip and wacked the handle with a hammer after using it for a while. I thought the scales were cheap and was mad at benchmade which is why I whacked it with a hammer out of curiosity and the grip held up fine. I'm sure the BC is a tank as well.

It's a thumbhole.

The BC's have G10 scales rather than FRN or aluminum on the Presdios.

I believe the liners are listed as 420J, I may be wrong because I haven't looked for a while.

I've been carrying the 15030-1 (mini w/ G-10) as a fairly recent purchase. So far it's come the closest to my ideal EDC knife. Just a solid package with ergonomics that fit me well and the right size overall for my usage. The modified sheepsfoot blade is great and the D2 steel has held an edge well enough I haven't even thought about needing to hone it so far.

Right after I ordered mine and was waiting for delivery, I noticed the price jumped up from the same retailer by close to thirty dollars overnight. I guess I'm fortunate that I ordered mine when I did because it was at the limit of my desired price range already.

My only complaint is the logo and other etching on the blade. Don't really like the skull within the antlers, and never have been a fan of brand names and/or signatures on a blade. Speaking of which - can anyone confirm if it's etched or possibly removable without destroying the finish? I've heard conflicting things in different posts after doing a search.

The logo and other markings are laser etched which runs deeply. You'll never get it off the blade without major stock removal.

Looking at Benchmade's web site, the Bone Collector line is definitely discontinued. Hopefully, the knives will live on in the new "Hunt" line of knives.

To add: the great thing about these BC models is they're easy to upgrade to a stock Presidio blade should you choose. The G-10 handles are much friendlier than are the stock aluminum version. Again here's my hybrid as an example - and also one of my favorite knives to carry.

Would you have tip own a presidio also, or can you somehow get benchmade to sell you/replace the blade,?

My guess is get both, but who knows what a call to customer service might produce for $25

You would have to buy a stock Presidio or find a user on the secondary market. Benchmade typically won't replace anything but the blade that came with the product, and only if there's a problem. When I bought the knife above from my friend Bob, the aluminum scaled stock model was put up for sale with the original Bone Collector blade. Make sense?
