Bone Filler?

I drilled one of my pin holes in my stag scales a bit crooked. Do you have any ideas for a filler that will blend in with the light colored bone. I tried bone dust on top of ca glue, but it turned darker around the hole. I know how to avoid this problem next time, but is this just a give away knife or are there any fixes? Thanks in advance for any advice. Fred::eek:

How big is the gap? You could peen the pin to fill the gap?
Get a colbalt or carbide drill bit to drill a bigger hole through the hardened steel tang and use a bigger pin???
I don't know what would look good for a filler:(

Dont ever use a filler. They all show and nothing takes value off faster than filler or epoxy showing.

I too suggest a bigger pin. Possibly a bigger, softer and longer pin so you can dome the top of it. You could always put tiny washers under the domes. High end bowies have gold washers and domed silver pins sometimes.

Dont make this mistake on the next one.:)

The way I fixed my bone mistake, was to file some bone take the filings and super glue them in place lightly sand smooth, it looked seemless. but I defer to Bruce on this if he says dont, dont

Hey thanks. I didnt know I was the final authority though. You may have gotten luckier than I ever did. The only thing I was able to fix that way was mammoth tooth. It has so many differant colors and textures that its really easy to fix around the pins.

I once had a bad chip-out on the side of a rivet. Filling it was not a good option (as Bruce pointed out). I took a diamond core drill (HF) and cut a shallow ring around the rivet. Cleaned it up, and put colored epoxy in the depression. After sanding and buffing, it made a nice colored ring around the rivet. Not a perfect choice, but an acceptable solution. I have used an end mill to recess the rivet and area around it just enough to epoxy in the rim butt of a pistol cartridge. It looks pretty cool. I think I have a photo of that one somewhere.I'll try and find it tonight.

Last time I drilled a hole wrong in a horn handle, I just redrilled a bigger hole that covered up the mistake. It wasn't ideal to use a larger pin, but I'd rather have a pin that looks a little oversized than an obvious blemmish.

you make prettier knives than me... therefore you are a greater authority on knife finishing in my book
