How do You guys normally finish cow bone? I am putting some smooth bone scales on a folder and don't really know how to finish them. I was thinking about hand sanding to 400 or 600 grit and then sealing them with super glue or clear epoxy then polishing until it looks right.

Thanks in advance

Bone is a traditional handle material, because it finishes and holds up well. Bone is usually dyed a darker color. There are pores, called Haversian canals, in bone. These will capture polishing compound-and show on undyed bone. Bone polishes nicely, otherwise.

I have a bone handled knife and only super glued the bone and polished it keeping the buffer loaded with white rouge. Have not had the speckling problem some have noted. here is a picture.
