A newbie to the bone ordering and had a question.

Why would one choose radius over flat or vise versa.

Looking to pick up some camel bone...
Should camel bone be stabilized ??
The site I'm at does not say ( knife kits . Com)

If I get the flat scales that are dyed, when I contour them the dye will be all the way thru correct?

I'm really not sure why someone would choose radiused over flat ???

Educate me please

I like the radiused stag on one of my folders because it fills my hand more comfortably than most of my other knives. But I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

Bone density varies so the dye may or may not be absorbed evenly. As you do your finish sanding you may encounter light/darker areas. It should be stabilized but check the back side for voids and fill with CA. For a slipjoint knife flat is fine however for a full tang the radius is more comfortable in hand. Radius is generally more expensive because it requires more bone and flat is probably left overs that didn't make the cut for a nice radius scale.

Busto pretty much nailed the why of it. If the handle will be mainly flat, then order flat. If the handle will be curved, order radiused. This will get a more even color look.

If you are going to be doing any significant shaping or grinding on the bone, it won't matter which you use.
