BONE SUNDAY (Traditionals of Course)

Of the knives I've accumulated over the last three years, these happen to be my favorite with bone. May or may not change as time goes onward.

Need some advice from all you bone aficionados, i value your input and opinions. I have this with bone covers, but i don't like them, the jigging is too neat and structured, and it just looks cheap and like plastic. I was thinking of replacing them with this wood, it would be something i have never attempted before. Or i was thinking of sanding them back a bit to look more natural, like they have been worn with use, and then attempting to dye them. My thinking is a red dye would give them more of an olive colour, or black a more darker brown colour. What do you think???

Looks like you have enough wood to make some sample pieces . But if it was mine : I would try to do some jigging on the existing bone , even some Worm Tracks . Then I would try different colors of Dyes . IMHO I just can't imagine the colors that what you have now would wear down to .

I agree with Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer . If it were mine, I would try some over-jigging wiyh a dremel or similar tool. Also if you want to change the color, you could either try removing the current color with a hydrogen peroxide bath as demonstated by Camillus elsewhere on this forum, or maybe simply try over-dyeing with another color.

I was just going to try an over-dye, but had not heard of the hydrogen peroxide bath, thankyou for that piece of information, i shall research more detail. I have 2 bottles of hydrogen peroxide in the cupboard. I don't know about the jigging with a dremel though, i'm not that confident in my own abilities on that score, i have a dremel but not sure. Thanks for your interest and input.
