OK, I have a Kadka Bonecutter....I like it, I took it out today and did some chopping, and I have an idea. I would like you guys and gals input.
It is a great size (18") and chops like crazy...BUT, the ring on the handle drives me nuts.
I much prefer M43 style handles..smooth with NO ring.
IF...IF, I was to modify the handle, do you think the Kuk is less collectible by a large margin, or only slightly. Considering, that the handle work would be done in a professional manner, and looked great.
What do you guys think?
Fix it to suit me, or sell it, and get an M43 in the same size.
Hike pics below!

ON a side note..I handled my first Foxy today, and man, I gotta have one!!!

Sorry about the crappy pics, I forgot my camera, but Wes took some, maybe he will post some from the actual work being done. The pics dont do it any justice..came out very nice. Great wood on the handle..it only needs some more linseed oil..and some polish. thanks for the input.

I think the most important thing is your comfortable and safe use of the tool.
I don't think that you would have a hard time selling it after, even with the changes. If you had to that is. The collectability of an item like this should not be adversely affected by some classy cusomizing.
I say DO IT!

It might hurt a broad market sale, but a lot of people have expressed interest in the same thing. I'd say you might limit your resale, but you wouldn't outright kill the value, since you'll just be stuck to a niche market of buyers. ($0.02)So I'd reason you'd be okay either way, but personally I'd love to get a hold of it with cho in tact, though I'm holding out for a custom hawk and another farm knife at the moment.

Thanks guys..I guess I will wait for a few more folks to chime in..but I might just go for it. The thing is a beast, but I am partial to a smooth handle.
If it comes out like I hope and think it will, then it will be a keeper for sure.

Ideally, removing the ring will make the BC more of an ideal khukuri for you as a user. If it does everything you need it to then I doubt you'd want to resale it, so I say have the ring removed.

you're dead to me now bro' ;) dead dead dead.

okay, j/k :)

firstly: you will NEVER sell that bonecutter. except to me ;)

secondly, i have a couple khuks with removed rings (done by others), and they are just fine. if you can do it well, and smoothly, do it.

resale value? well, it's a sgt khadka. he's legendary. nothing he makes should ever be sold at a discount ;) and it's a BONECUTTER. man, even with HI making those now, they're still rare enough, and a khadka model, man, how could you not love it? you can put hello kitty stickers on it, and it will sell.

one thought: if you can get someone with a drill press to carefully put a thong hole? awesome.

for now, you could tone the rings down a little to a bump... by hand. if you like it, keep it. if not, go all the way.

foxies are great, aren't they? i've had quite a few, and still have a lot. no, not selling them. one of my favorite khukris models. EVER.

anything from the fat YCS to a long thin dui chirra, from the old skool 21 inch TOO heavy and too thin/light monster original foxies to the middle skool models that were "just right"... and even the new model with a karda... awesome with the fullers and leafy design. perfection :)

i'm a huge fan of DEEP ig fullers, yes? the new falcata is a must have. the tin chirra is awesome, but it's the two-fullers design works for me. chitlangi? yes. chitlangi bowie? YES.

and while the origial sgt khadka bonecutters have a bit of a fuller to them, if they were also dui chirra? crap. i'd wet myself.

Here is the Foxy and Bonecutter hangin out together..chopping goodness
The small knife is my new camp knife, a FOX Military Division Parang, 7 inch blade..very cool little knife also..I love it. The sheath kinda sucks, but that is fixable.

I'll go against the grain and say leave it as is. Probably less than 100 Bonecutters out there by the Sarge, if ya know what I mean ;)

I hear yah..trust me, I am considering this also. I usually just start moffing my tools to my liking...but the Sarge is the MAN in my book.
Honestly...I dont see myself selling it..so I might just modify it.
I will include pics guys. IF I DO IT.

Yeah, im a huge fan of the grip rings. i actually am in a COMPLETELY opposite boat: i am actually waiting on a custom M43 that i ordered WITH a grip ring.

Just a few more pics from this morning with Gunknifenut, and man am I hooked on these Khukuri's! That parang is one bad ass little blade too:thumbup:

gunknifenut, here's a thought smooth it down and make it less pronounced more of a bump than a ring. You can always go back and remove it entirely later. What ever you do finish it all the way and take your time it shouldn't hurt the "value" of it if its done properly.

I think I will just remove it all the way tomorrow...hopefully, all you Sarge fans still love me tomorrow night. We will have to wait and see what kind of craftsman I am.;)

thanks man, you always take the worst pics of me....whats with that?
I look like a guy from the movie "deliverance on meth"

Now the big question is Tooley a brindle? Points off for not being a red nose but still cute:thumbup:

Oh yeah..big baby that one. You should see my 18 month old climbing all over him. Its Wes's dog, but still a great friend on 4 legs.
