Bonehead Newbie-note to self...

So I am working on my third knife having used hand files and my own HT. I bit off more than I can chew with this so I have taken my time and I have more hours into this blade than I care to admit. I am working on the guard currently and it is a lesson in frustration. I was pounding the guard on the last 1/2" or so with the blade clamped in my vise (I wrapped the blade in paper towel and electrical tape) when I realized it had slipped down and the piece of wood I put underneath the tip had shifted. I was pounding the tip into the steel baseplate of my vise. I might have screamed. Upon inspection the tip is completely unscathed so I must have done something right.

Note to self: pay attention to what I'm doing and secure the block under the tip....bonehead.

Don't feel too bad man. I was just admiring my work on a knife that I'd been working on last night. I too have put a lot of time in on it. As I was going to set it down I dropped it on the concrete floor. The tip curled up like Aladdins shoe.

Probably could have straightened it but got disgusted and just ground the whole tip off. Now I've gotta fix that mess.

Shi... Happens.
