I doubt this needs to be said, but after yesterday my faith in mankind has diminished. "Tape the box closed."

I bought a "grail to me" knife - Blind Horse Knife custom mini Bushbaby with lime green liners, black pinstripes with polished bone handle (one of a kind, I think) from the LTWK forum "Pout House" - and the guy did not tape the USPS priority box closed. Received an empty box - only air.

"Never crossed my mind" was his response. Add the fact that the other members felt sorry for the guy, and it was a double kick to the groin. Coddling a grown man that handles sharp objects over a bonehead move is confusing.

Sure he refunded my money, but this one will hurt for a long time. It was a grail knife for my small and humble BHK/LTWK collection. I have a weird thing with the number 3 and this one would have been #3 in (3) separate categories - a perfect score.

So please know that every box needs to be taped on all openings.

Anyone beat this one for shear lack of common sense?

Common Sense ..IS NOT READILY handed out too many people..
Amazing things happen in BF from shipping to communication...
In the years I have been here...
We dont have the space nor the time to go into the IGNORANCE I
have encountered...
Safe as it is too say..
I have experienced a far GREATER outstanding transactions..
Then """BONEHEAD ONES""

amazes me but I get them daily from members who trust the glue alone. Plus USPS Priority flat rate boxes can be taped "FREE" with USPS tape at the post office. The tape adds attention to the package and secures it. Doubt it, ask any Post Office. They will give you all the tape you need as long as it is used inside the Building. If you ship often this can save .25 cents easily per package and add clarification to the box. The boxes are free. I package mine, print labels and pay via paypal at home and seal with USPS with Free tape. This also gets me a printed receipt that is also proof of shipment, not that just a label was purchased at my home. Otherwise you can never prove you actually mailed the package.

In our culture, it is regarded as funny to call the giant kid in class "Tiny." From this form of humor we get "common sense."

Sage advice..............................................tape the box so that the buyer needs to use his EDC sitting in his pocket to open it!!!

^^^ This! If you're getting a knife from me I'm pretty sure it's not your first knife. If it is, you'll hate when when it's time to open the box. :p

I tape AND " Gorilla Glue " the box shut.. OCD I guess :D

I bought a used Kershaw Blur last year. The seller dropped it in an envelope and mailed it to me. That explains the blood I found on my porch, when the spring-loaded knife popped open in the envelope and exsanguinated my letter carrier. Surprise! The seller - sorry I can't remember who without looking it up - was a nice guy and subsequently assured my letter carrier that the knife was generally clean and had not been used for any unsavory purposes.

Powernoodle's shipping rule: entomb the package in enough packing tape to insure that it would survive a nuclear blast.

When I get a well-taped Priority box, I use a small sharp blade to surgically slit the tape around 3 sides of the glued panel. Then I peel that cover off without cutting into the package. Neat, clean, secure.

Some Bladeforums guys must own stock in 3M / Scotch tape! I love to see it. :D

I reuse my boxes, must have 100 min. some have been shipped 4-5 times, and I save every label for actual addresses, helpful if I buy or trade again. Also helps make members real humans. Had I known I could use my real name, RB Black would be my member name. This would reduce a lot of B/S on all forums.

Gorilla glue, I wish you had not told me about that!!!

Gorilla glue, packing tape and scotch tape, with all that adhesive one will need to soak the package in acetone for 20 minutes just to start the opening process!!

Luckily my mail lady didn't lose a digit or two with this one..... The kydex sheath was in the box SEPARATE from the blade all wrapped up and secure!! :o

It still puzzles me why people would keep the fixed blade and its kydex sheath separate in the same box, especially folks who sell on the exchange. I have had a few blades arrive this way, thankfully the blade was covered properly with cardboard, but then why not in the kydex? Glad to know the mail lady was not hurt - this picture is scary.

Dang. I've honestly never had something badly shipped to me(knocks on wood) but I've had tons of horror stories told to me.

I always double tape the box, bubble wrap the contents, AND shove like 50 grocery bags for added padding.

I thought mine was bad, but those are scary. It is amazing the lack of thought put into the act - like the box is magical and the carrier workers are saints.

Sad that these make me feel slightly better - not sure why. I agree with the tape - can't use too much.

Keep them coming - these are hilarious so far.

Would like to add myself to the list - was not shipping related, but boneheaded nonetheless, so no story.
