boney active duty???

I love the contrast between the two pics:cool::thumbup:

Old school to New:D

I wonder if the modern percussion Hawken was frowned on by the old flintlock hunters? (I always loved the NRA T-shirt that showed the early militia men with their flintlocks that said "In 1776, these were 'assault rifles'.")

It never ceases to amaze me when hunters give me crap about carrying the AR-15. If you want to carry a Model '94 lever gun that's 100+ years old technology, fine. The AR in my photo is really the same thing: a short, light, quick-handling repeater of moderate power -- 6.8 SPC caliber; sort of a very mild version of the .270 Win in the same way that the 30/30 is a very mild version of the 30-06.

And if anyone is keeping track, the AR-15 is now 40+ years old technology. Hardly new! Get with the program!

reddawn,

Is the BAD your first Busse? If so, congratulations!

A perfect EDC or hunting knife!

I have one of the green linen versions and it is one of my all-time favorite knives. Get one!

Other side of the state... it's Lake George, "Queen of American Lakes" in the southeastern Adirondacks, just a short distance from the VT border.

Seriously, dude, I don't get this.

I've asked several times on gun boards why people "Ohhh" and "ahhhh" over an M1A (I understand it's a nice rifle) as a "real rifleman's rifle", then I ask why the AR-15 user isn't a "real rifleman". They never answer, or they say something like "The conventional rifles encourage proper technique, etc." But, the AR has the best sights ever put on a rifle, IMO, is easy to scope, easy to shoot, does come in other calibers than 5.56x45 (I remember even seeing one in .300 WSM), is easy to handle, etc. It may not be the best combat rifle (not having been in combat with these or any other rifle, I can't say), but I'll be damned if it isn't one of the best rifles in general. As for "proper technique", pistol-gripped rifles require different handling techniques, and they're just that -- different, not wrong.

Sorry for the rant.

The BAD looks right next to your AR.

I love the green linen scales.

I have the BAD and a sage Game Warden with green linen, and I just bought a green Meaner in green linen.

Pretty good lookin' stuff!

I've been to that part of the state, I canoed from Old Forge north across Raquette Lake to ? spent 5 days up and 5 back. Beautiful country, in the summer.

I lived in the Finger Lakes

I'm a canoe nut, too! (I have two Bells and a Mad River) I usually do some canoeing each year in Racquette/Fourth/Utowana Lakes/Marion River. The Fulton Chain is a canoeist's paradise.

The Finger Lakes and NY wine country...

It is a pretty place (surprising to most who haven't been here and only picture the city) but, NY state is f'ed up. The taxes and laws are ridiculous. I hope to be out of here in a few more years....
