BOO YAH!!!!!!!!!!! HT'd a few blades tonight, using my new brick pile gas forge I put together from SHEER DESPARATION  (as well as a pile of firebricks and a weed torch)!!!!!!! It was a great success! Also used the Park's #50 I got from Patriq, and OH YEAH it worked perfectly. That is great stuff, it's unbeleivable. I quenched 1075, 1084 and 5160 and all hardened up perfectly, from spine to edge and everywhere in between. Did a sashimi knife with an attempted hamon, an unusual skinner type knife, the knife of Brock, and the tactical katana. All turned out exceptionally, the katana did not get fully non magnetic along the entire length as I would have liked, was drawing it back and forth through the tunnel of the forge and it just wouldn't get every part I wanted hot enough, so i'll hang onto it and try again when I get a real forge. The Park's is great stuff, now having used it again I am even more convinced, more hardness, more even cooling, less warpage, great smell, cool noise, I love everything about it and recommend it highly to everyone. If you haven't tried it already I suggest you do so you will be convinced first time it's the best choice for the job ;) .

I hope to Larry, HT was one of the last problems I had but now I got it sorted pretty good atleast as far as knives go, that little brick pile works good. It would be pretty crappy for forging, as it just get's to non magnetic and thereabouts but for heat treating that's perfect.

Congrats Sam, glad it all worked out for you.

Oh by the way did you get the message I sent to you?
