Book on Schrade Knives

Yes there is. It's by Robert Clemente. It is in handbook form (3 ring binder), and is a compilation of information and research taken from published product catalogs from 1953 to 2003. This is quoted from the fly sheet of the book. It is very very complete and Codger 64 will have to come in here with the contact information and pricing. I'm sure in just a post or two you will have your complete answer.

Robert's book is excellent, very comprehensive. Have a curiousity about the older Schrades? (Schrade Cut and Schrade-Walden)? I liike the book by Jim Sargent, American Premium Guide to Pocket Knives Identification and Values. About 60 pages on those knives.

And for the oldies, there is a reprint available of the Schrade Cut catalogs of the late 20's and 30's. It was published by AG Russell in 1971.

Both sometimes available on ebay or on-line booksellers. Robert Clement's book from the author.

JHrilling, I'm glad you're becoming a regular here!

Please note we have a published author here on the forum who wrote the switchblade book shown below. Although like the Sargents' book I mentioned above, it is not all about Schrades, it does get into the many switchblades Schrade made over the years.

Fact is, there is not much $ to be made in doing a really complete book featuring every knife ever bearing that fine name, as well as the knife companies leading up to Schrade. Next best thing, in my opinion, is this forum.

No Paul, I did not get a 'test' email, but I did get the last one with your address. I'll get the 165Uh into the mail to you Monday, and soon we can show these guys my vision (as crafted by you) of the perfect hunting shield.

Once again, the forum has come through and quickly. I am fairly new to knife collecting, even though I have a large amount and I mean large amount of pocket and fixed blade knives, so this forum has been a true blessing to me. Yesterday, I went through one of my boxes and checked out each knife I have, and learned that I have a lot of knives...meaning, that if Made in China, Japan, Pakistan, etc ever become collectors items...I'm in. Out of the whole box of knives, I found about 8 "good ones" and 4 others that I can't figure out where they were made, but very old.

Thanks guys, for your time and input. JHR

JH, most of us were no different in our early collecting. We are just a bit ahead of you (some by 50 years or so), and when we got a bit serious, we became quite generous with the paki, chinee, and other imported knives. Some of the newer Japanese knives are world class now. Welcome to the forum and to the world of knife collecting!

I think most collectors and "accumulators" have a shoebox of junkers from China and Pakistan. Mine is actually a Velveeta cheese box. "You collect knives? Here, you can have this, I found it in my truck." Would be rude to throw it away, so it goes in the Velveeta box.

The four unidentified knives, do they have any markings at all?

Bill,
You always give us so much rope to hang ourselves!
JH, Let us know if we can help in any way. Curiosity will kill us if you dont tell us what those 4 unknowns look like. We always like pictures. Welcome to the addiction. It and us are a lot of fun and we can be quite punny.

Bob W. Thanks ...I will try to get some close ups and get them on the Forum.

Codger 64, If you are ahead of me by 50 years, you must have help load the ark. :) I started picking up knives in the early 60's and have given a ton of them away. About 2 years ago, I started finding them in various places around the garge and started putting them all in one box. Somewhere I have several new Schrade knives that we used to sell in our store in the 80's & 90's. When we sold the store, I brought the knives home and have placed them someplace for safekeeping. I just haven't located them yet.

Some one said that you might have access or knowledge bout where I might purchase a book all about Schrade knive. Any suggestions??

Yes, Phil (Textoothpk) posted it above. Robert Clemente wrote an excellent compilation, and can send it in print or on disc. I put mine in a small 3 ring binder with slip-sheet covers. I can add pictures, notes, whatever without doodling up the pages.

And the member I was alluding to maybe did get his first knife from Noah Schrade. LT632ret wrote the definative book on switchblades, and now has one of the top ten Schrade collections in the nation. He is on sabbaticle just now, but he is curating a premier display in a museum, hopefully as a prelude to realizing his long time dream of seeing a dedicated Schrade knife museum.

How do I go about ordering one of these books? I looked up Robert Clemente on the Web and all I get is Roberto Clemente.

Inre Noah...Do you suppose he took "two of each kind unto the ark????

Received the info and sent away for the material on Schrades. Thanks everybody.

Yesterday, I started looking for the Schrades I stored away, but never found them., but did find a Case NIB and a aCase w/o a box. The one in the box is labeled Item # 00030, and the smaller one w/o the box is stamped Case USA and 6333 SS , plus I found an old gold colored pen knife. Took pictures of a couple of them but when I tried to download them, "I blew up my camera"!!! Everything was downoading like normal and then It just quit. Now I can't get anything to work on the camera, so had to locate a Kodak dealer to see if it can be fixed.

JHRilling,

I use a Kodak DX4530 but not their software and I do not connect the camera to the PC, I find a USB card reader more convenient, if you have Windows XP it will recognize the card reader and bring up a window that will give you options for downloading.

I once had a talk with the guy who evaluates cameras for the insurance people where I used to work (for taking pictures at accident sites and such) and he told me that Kodaks tend to be more fragile than others, I hope yours is OK.

Luis

Me too!!! I sent the camera to Kodak but haven't heard a word from them yet. I did find the sales slip and it is under warrranty which should help.

Found two more knives the other day at home that I would like to get to you guys to see if anyone can ID them, PLUS, a very good friend of mine died last year, and his widow called me over Sat past and asked if I could use or get rid of his ammo, (enough to start a small war) plus some old knives that she doesn't know what to with them. :)
