Can you guys post pics of your boonie hats and tell about them. I'd like to get one but don't know which.

I like multicam or the 3-color desert camo and then there's the fabic options...100% cotton, 50/50 nylon/cotton, 65/35 polyester/cotton, which one?

Thanks,

I probably have 10 of them in just about every color and fabric. I like the 100% cotton the best because I like to wet it and wear it when it's scortching out it releases the water more slowly and it breathes better too. The poly blend ones look newer longer and are more abrasion resistant though.

Trent Rock exclusively wears digital urban camo boonies by Tru-Spec

They go good with my Chuck Taylors :)

The Tru-Spec "wide brim" boonie hats (65/35 polyester/cotton) have a little bit larger brim than the regular, army surplus store type
I just got it last week
I kind of like the smaller brim better
But, they do not offer digital urban camo in regular brim size:mad:
I feel like Kathryn Hepburn in On Golden Pond:eek:
I think most of my boonie hats are 65/35 polyester/cotton:confused:
Never really paid much attention :o

Paid like $3 for this one , but I would like to get the real McCoy.
My melon sweats too much in my Aussie oilskin , and the boonie is a lot lighter Plus you can crush them for packing and they are alright later. This one's digi-cam but I'd prefer the regular camo or OD.

Evil nasty things that I had to wear in the Army instead of a real hat.

Opps.......

What I mean to say, is I much prefer a hat with a wider stiffer brim, that keeps the sun out my eyes and the back of my neck better protected from the sun.

Ha! I much prefer our issue boonies to the patrol cap, but our patrol cap is much more functional than the beret...now the beret is an evil nasty thing:barf: I'm just glad we're back to the patrol cap, but my preference is the boonie.

No pictures, but other than my issued ones (ACU and older woodland camo), I have a short brim multi-cam custom that I really like; of course my new Tilley is getting a lot of "head-time" now:D

Boonie With Mesh.jpgOkay, maybe not strictly a boonie hat but I don't have much turf upstairs and need the protection of a hat but I also find they make my head sweat like crazy. My latest hat came from Dicks Sporting Goods and has breathable mesh around the perimeter, a chin strap, and snaps that will secure the brim folded up if desired.

I have two '80's vintage USGI ones, one in tan and the other o.d. I use the tan one the most, and I hosed it with heavy duty Scotch Guard to make it at least somewhat water resistant.

I am not a big fan of boonie hats. For me, a straw hat with a much wider brim is more to my liking. A good straw will breath better, keep you cooler, and provide more shade. For rain, I prefer a Seattle Sombrero by Outdoor Research.

100% cotton and beaten half to death. It ain't pretty but if I'm wearing it I ain't worried about being pretty.

I got one from "graywolf", he custom builds them to your spec/size, the workmanship is top notch

it has a shock cord drawstring that can be loosened/tightened at the rear of the hat, comes w/ a high vis panel under the crown- also serves as a pocket for thin/flat items (map, mosquito headnet, etc)- he's builds a lot of hats for our service men (and women)

I have boonies in 3 camo patterns: ABU, ACU, and OCP. All associated with mil service. The boonie is a great, simple design. I also have a boonie-style hat from Colombia with mesh panels in the crown that is really nice. If you want a good boonie, get a mil-spec multicam--great, simple hat with good camo.

I've got a 100% cotton oilskin hat from The Australian Outback Collection that's still going strong after 15yrs or so (I don't think I've ever known the model name.) I like it, but there are times I've wished it had some kind of draw-string...

I have several, mostly made of ripstop. they work great in this ga. heat, my bald head doesn't get sunburned or attacked by bugs.

The ones I use are TruSpec, as they seem to size a little larger than the Propper (?) that I had (and apparently I have a large melon, the Propper at 7 3/4 is too tight, but the TruSpec fits comfortably.). Just ordered a couple from blackhawk which goes to a size 8 and seem to have a smaller brim, which I prefer. Only 'colors' they have tho are desert digital and multi, would have prefered tan/desert.

Flame Flame Flame...
the man insulted the holy beret.....................
LOL
Actually growing up in England, where it rains and is windy most of the time, a wool beret is a most functional hat in the mountains and moors
It keeps your head warm when wet, and you can pull it to keep the driving rain out your eyes some as it drips down your hood
(and a place for your brass and silver regimental cap badge)

Now the Tilley, that is a real hat.....
