Boot Knife

Geeze, Anthony, quit showing those things. Ya know what happened to me the last time. :D

Yep, it's hard to go wrong with Eddie White's knives. Excellent handmade knife at an equally incredible price! Shadowknives are fine by me!

Thanks to all of you guys & gals here!..:D True story:

..Last Friday I am on the job at quitt'n time putting up my tools and changing out my dirty shirt for a clean one out of my ruck sack at my old Ford PU truck so as that I could meet my crew at the pub for a cold one or two.. and I slipped this one into my boot as usual. Next thing I know,, is one of the AC fabricators who is busy installing Ducting in the rafters of the building we are at starts cursing up a storm..

I go in to see what can be done about the problem thinking at first it may be someone is hurt.. but it seems he has broke his old Duct knife(the only real companion an AC duct installer has). I don't know if any of you all know what that is, so I best explain it for you all who do not.. A Duct knife is a fixed blade that has a blade that is approximately 3 1/2-6 1/2 inches long depending on the fellow.. Its typically razor sharp and any installer worth his salt would not be caught dead without a freshly stropped and/or sharpened knife..

..His old Duct knife was finished and he only had about 25 feet of duct left to install which had several rooms in its path which means multiple cuts to finish the run.. As I hand up my knife to him on instinct as an offering to replace his old broken knife so he can finish the job,, I half realize at this point what I have done,, just so I can get at a single malt scotch 15 minutes sooner than I had planned.. I start to cringe over what my beautiful shadow knife will look like after he completes his last Duct run... The feeling isn't good, and I start to pray silently to the knife Gods that my beautiful smooth red bone shadowknives knife will come back to me in one piece..

All the sudden I here some more expletives,, but this time this same fellow is shouting them with joy and praise and using accolades in his voice.. After his run is complete he demands to know where I got this knife made(recognizing the hand made quality instantly) so he may inquire as to how to obtain one for him self... Suffice it to say that this Gent paid for more than just a few of my drinks at the pub for the information that I will give to you all for free.. Eddie White at www.shadowknives.com or you can just go here in "Knife Maker's for Sale Forum." Specifically, "Fixed Blades for Sale" .. Do a quick search for " Dyed Blades" or "shadowknives"

All the best to all you all!

LOL, using is believing. You sure he wasn't trying to loosen you up with those drinks so he could talk you out of that knife? ;)

I just realized the cost of the knife is actually less than some bottles of Premium Scotch! Of course, both are the product of careful and loving craftsmanship.

He, He, LOL..:D Yes Amos, you are correct on both counts!. I suppose it is a good thing I still make a half decent buck now and again..:) A fellow could go broke purchasing good quality SM Scotch.. Due to a good friends gift of a bottle presented to me over the last Christmas holidays, however, I did discover a fine ten year old single malt from the famous Speyside Region of the Scottish Highlands called Speyburn for right at $20. Super product for the money on a working mans salary.:D

I was actually quite amazed over the knife's condition after my man Jack the A/C fabricator/installer gave it back to me. There was only several surface scratches and a few mars on the blade to add to the ones that I have already accumulated myself with recent use. The blade edge came right back to hair popp'n sharp with a few stroppes from my old leather belt and the A/C crew has a brand new respect for this old carpenter.;)

Hmmm. Speyburn, eh? Well, the recommendation for the knife was a good one, so I should naturally give this one a try. ;)

Good to hear that knife made an impression and helped your rep a bit more.

I have to ask ....... what do you do for a living?

Well since I'm watching the latest James Bond movie while typing this I could say I am some secret agent (Ha,ha,ha...grin). But the truth is I farm for a living and use a knife in all kinds of ways. With this knife I carry three on me at all times, one in each pocket and one boot knife...And since I happen to live in rural Florida and we have had some Alligator issues on the property lately I like the added protection.

This picture is one that sucked down a 140lb wild hog in about 2 foot of water, He was 12' 2" and weighed around 450 lbs. The same area where we have washed our hands for years in a little ditch.

My attitude is no matter what happens I might as well be as prepared as possible in life. :)

Nice catch!. You know,, I have been looking for a nice new pair of Sunday-go-2-meeting Boot's and matching belt.. MMm...;) :p

What did you DO with that alligator in the end? Is the hide valuable? Can you eat the meat? Try burying or cremating that dragon:eek:

Hi Willgoy,

We call a licensed trapper who has the proper permits and after harvesting him he will move him to a processing center where his meat and hide will be harvested. The gator meat is really excellent and the hide is very valuable at this current time, even more so since hurricane Katrina hurt Louisiana's alligator industry.

Sunndy,

After I get my Sunday boots and matching belt you will be the next in line..:p

What's the meat LIKE? Poultry? How do you prepare it?
Keeping any hide for sheath material?

I ate gator a couple of times when I lived in Louisiana. It was good, but not really like any other meat I've had. Been a while, so I can't give a better description, than to say I'd eat it again.

How about Rattlesnake?
Is that any good too?

Would like to try it but certainly don't fancy catching it:eek: or preparing it:barf:

The best I can describe gator meat is it has a similar texture to lobster (IMO). It is a white meat that can be on the chewy side. I have really only enjoyed it when its cubed up breaded and fried, I'm sure there are thousands of other ways to serve it up..

Now I have only had rattlesnake meat in a salad dish so my experience is limited. It seemed a little rubbery and not something I would go out of my way to put on the plate.

Hey why settle for rattlesnake when you can have coon or armadillo :D

Rattlesnake tends to taste like what it eats. If you get it near a river, it will have been eating frogs or other amphibians and it will taste fishy. If it is more in the woods or desert, it will taste like greasy rabbit. Desert is more tough.

I am looking for a good boot knife to carry and use. I have scanned around the web a little but get overwhelmed by too much information. I wanted to ask ya"ll what your recommendations are..

Thanks,

Sunburst
the best boot knife is the one made by boker . the model is the litlle smatchet

I have eaten gator meat several times and by far the best dish I ever had was made from the gators tail. For some reason that was the tenderest part of the gator that I have ever consumed!.

Surnbust,
Its OK.. You take the Boots and Belt, how about you just leave me enough for a nice sheath for one of my fixed blades..:D
