I have the Camillus CP75 and would like to know why Western makes an identical version, except for the blade color.
Even the big brother CP77 has a Western counterpart.
They are cute boot knives at an affordable price!

Thomas,
Actually, the WESTERN boot knives have been around ALOT longer. When CAMILLUS purchased WESTERN in the ealy 90's, we got the tooling for the WESTERN knives. Part of that was the WESTERN ww75 and ww77. We immediatley started making those models. Later we wanted to have a more 'tactical looking ' boot knives, so we put checked zytel scales on them, and cosated the blades black. We put these under the CAMILLUS banner as the CP75 and CP77.

I hope this helps, and thanks for the interest!

Hey Will, do you know what steel Western used for the W77 before you guys acquired them? I have one I bought back in late 70's early 80's, it has a tang stamp that says,
"Western", under that, "USA W77" and under that "F". TIA

Brian,
IF its stainless, which is SHOULD be, is would be 440a as best as we can tell from their records. We used 440a until a couplel of years ago as availibilty of 440a in 'coil' form dried up. We have since done ALOT of experimentation with 420HC. We have come up with a very good heat treat procedure for 420HC and are VERY happy with it. We get 58 Rc, and its a very tough steel.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Will for the info.
These boot knives are really cute.
I must buy all four of them, even if I already have the smaller Camillus.
