Boots for professional dress.

Shorts and cowboy boots will make you friends in San Francisco...

Rocky Outback moc-toe (either the 6 or 8") is what I wore when i taught high school and community college. as a new teacher i thought they were pricey at $130, but I've learned better since. :D
an alternative would be the Navy flight deck boots at Sportsman's Guide if you want a black boot under $70.

I am a teacher, and I tend to wear dress shoes/pants/shirt/tie for work as a personal preference. That said, there is a lot of variation in how teachers dress, unless your prospective school has a specific code for faculty. I think you could wear just about whatever footwear you want. Chukkas or Doc Martens would probably look the best.

I just keep a pair of boots in the trunk of my car in case I have to do any unexpected walking.

what about a good pair of cowboy boots? i own 2 pairs one in black python and one in brown lizard. i can make them work dressed up or down

I taught for seven years and wore everything from Nike's to cowboy boots to dress shoes to work boots. It's usually pretty relaxed in that dept. I mainly recommend wearing something COMFORTABLE! Once I quit wearing cowboy boots, I never went back!! Nike's were way better on my feet, legs, back, etc!!!

Here's the boots I like best, they look good when polished and are tough for outdoor use! I wear them daily currently!

Lassens could pass for casual professional wear, or Marrels or many other moc/hikers that are out there. Or you could pull a Dr. House and show up to school every day in a new pair of running shoes.
