Boots!

I confess, I guess I'm not a real manly man....I only own a pair of rubber galosh-type foul-weather boots. I wear my uniform shoes, (essentially black leather athletic shoes) Sneakers, and flip-flops.

I have a pair of dress shoes that I only wear when absolutely forced, much the same as dress-up clothes. I'm an unrepentant slob.

Im surprised no one has mentioned Danners yet. They cost more than $100 but they're well worth it. I curently wear a pair of Acadias at work and a set of Explorers as knock around boots. The explorers have performed really well in the Olympic and Cascade mountains of Western Washington and I swear they get more comfortable every time I wear them.

All I have to say... is dont venture into skeeter infested areas in flops... Attempt to revive the thread! :D

wearing my 1460's now. I had a thread about Doc Martens in the Community Center :) Love there damn shoes

The key is good fit. Danner and Merrel (sp?) make darn good boots but, they don't fit my feet. I had Lowa's made in Germany and they are top notch. Buy from a good brand name and focus on fit, not the name.

Was just at sears looking at the durashocks! I'm impressed...

119.99 for the steel toe, 109 for the regular...

I may be "aquiring" a set with a large dent in the wallet!

Too bad they have to be all leather, I was going to suggest a good pair of jungles like the Altama Ripple Soles. (see Brigade Quartermasters http://www.actiongear.com )

You may want to consider checking a pair out, they're very much like running shoes.

I've worn these boots by Nautilus at work for the last few years.

They are composite toe, lighter than steel toe, very durable and comfortable, and cost $90.

The pair I wore before them were also from Naitilus. These were so comfortable that I wore them out by not changing into my sneakers when I would take my 3-mile walk at lunch for exercise.

I had a pair of Red Wings some years ago. The inside fell apart after only one month. The dealer said "Yep, that's covered by warranty. I'll send them in and you'll get them back in six to eight weeks". So I bought another pair of shoes to have while the Red Wings were being repaired. But I never sent them in. I ended up throwing them out a couple years later.

I'll throw in my .02 for Filson boots. Check out www.filson.com for a nice line up of boots. I have the unlined boots and absolutely love them... I can walk all day in them and my feet are fresh as the day I was born. They have a removable cork foot bed in them that really enhances their comfort. A little pricey, but they will last several lifetimes.
