Bored with Current Knife Offerings

I want a new EDC folder for the rotation, but nothing catches my eye. I have two Griptillians and a Rift, love the axis lock, would like to add another. But I just don't see anything under $200 I can get excited about. The ZT 301 comes close, but it's a bit heavy and pricey at $236. Comments/Suggestions?

Tell us what does catch your eye so we have a basis to go on. What do you use it for and what qualities do you love/hate.

I prefer tip up, thumbstud, 3.5" or 3.75" blade. Don't care for Spydercos. I've been out of the loop for a while when it comes to knives. I guess I'm asking what is out there that I might have missed not being in here every day.

How are the Zero Tolerance 301's thought of?

Get an Emerson.
I was going to post that in the "not worth the money" thread. Biggest POS I ever bought. How he sells knives or keeps a reputation I'll never know.

BTW, it wasn't just one knife. I tried 4 different knives, 3 models, all sucked. I did have one cqc that was ok, but nowhere near the $$ or rep.

Don't get an Emerson. Just pick something else. If you don't like Spyderco then pick up an old Benchmade from the secondary market.

If you're bored with the current offerings, either you're not looking hard enough, or it's about time to return to the classics. I recommend taking a look at some of Mike Alsdorf's designs.

So what trips your trigger?

People buy knives for different purposes. I like technology - different steels, locks, blade shapes, etc. Some people are company/maker addicts (Spyderco, Kershaw, BUSSE, for example).

People have likes and dislikes. I will not recommend a liner-lock to anyone anymore due to frequent lock failures.

So....

What trips your trigger? What do you like/want in a knife?

And please don't say "quality", since such a term is subjective and I have yet to hear anyone ask for recommendations for a POS knife.

Don't think I can put it in words, I just know it when I see it. If I had to say, I'd guess technology and/or cool factor. My favorite is the Axis lock for it's smooth action and ease of operation.

Had an waved Emerson Commander-I would open in my front bdu pockets while jogging, company promptly replaced it with a waveless commander at my request. new model did same.
Told Ernest Emerson about it at the Atlanta blade show (couple of years ago)
his reply.... ''Don't run with it!' so much for their hi-speed special ops gear.I traded it off within 15 minutes.
I like my ZT 302 but beware it is heavy. Some days it's a Spyderco Pacific Salt sometimes its the ZT.

I'm surprised at the Emerson hate here. I got a SOCFK and really like it. I got the spearpoint model. I spent less than $150 for it. It's a very solid knife.

My favorite production knife is The Kershaw Tyrade in Titanium. Right at $200 and a really solid knife.
