That is the nicest set of slipjoints that I have ever seen, and I am so jealous that I am drooling. I wish you many happy years of collecting, and I hope that your collection grows with each year. ( I also hope that if you ever suffer some bout of insanity and put any of them up for sale, you give me a call :D )

I tell you what, Gus. Next time I'm down thar in your part of the world, we should get together for a evening. I don't have many, but I'll bring a few of mine for you to see.

I hope that if any of you have some time in Atlanta that you would feel free to let me know if you wanted to get together (especially you shaldag :) ). Dinner and a mini knife show would be great! I'll even bring Calvin along.

I've got a Bose and a Shadley but haven't purchased a Kawamura yet. From what I've seen his knives are definetly among the best.

There are quite a few Japanese makers doing slip joints, I have owned/own several by Hiro Ohta. This fellow is probably most famous for his Loveless miniatures, I know Bob Loveless even has a couple.

This is a Quill pattern with carved tortoise shell.

First time I met Ohta, Louis Chow, Ohta, and I went to the Loveless shop together after the show. Bob had a mini Big Bear from him, that just blew me away. He later sent me one of his folders, that operates like a typical stright razor. I understand that these folders have been made in Japan for centuries. I use it as my edc. really nice work. http://home.earthlink.net/~michaellovett/ :)

Mike,

I've heard about that visit, I think from Louis. The folder you're referring to is a friction folder, I've had several of them, they are neat!

I am very impressed with Tony and Reese Bose, Richard Rogers (who no longer takes orders), Shadley and Joel Chambin.
I really like C Gray Taylor's work. I just noticed that his son David, who started making knives and joined the Guild at age 14 has started making folders again. Look on Plaza Cutlery's web site. Check out Grays website: www.cgraytaylor.com ;)

no wrong choice out of that list...
I have a small whittler in redbone from David Taylor that has been one of daily's of late that is untill thursday when a box from Terry Davis came with a serpentine stockman decked out in stag Ron Lake Stag that is this one is a walking talking TEN!
