Boss called me today..........

I have a lot of faith, and trust God. I KNOW it will all work out.

It was just a shock! You know?

Oh, yes. I imagine it would definitely come as a shock. I can't see you as anything but extremely competent ... it would take something like this before you could ever lose a position.

You have a right to a certain amount of medical leave under the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). I'd look into it.

Besides that, I hope it all turns out well for you!

My wife's cousin was recently injured and has been out of work for about 4 months. His injury was to the point that his wife had to stay home with him because he needed 24/7 care. After about six weeks the hospital she worked at filled her position and when she went to go back to work they said sorry we replaced you. She got unemployeement from them at the max rate ( which was more than she was making at the hospital).

I know it's not exactly the same but I would think you would have an even better case than she did.

I hope everything works out for you
David

I agree with many that this just doesn't sound right. If you are on FMLA, they have to guarantee you a job back at your same pay level, but not necessarily the job you left. (I think that's how I remember it. I've had to use FMLA before.) You may want to check it out, or let it go -- your personal choice.

I also agree with many that God will take care of you. I have not been able to work for 22 months due to having Ovarian Cancer. I have been cancer free for 1 year now, but there is no job to be found! I KNOW that my God will take care of all my needs, and I KNOW that He will provide for you as well!

May God Bless your health & your job search!!

We used to remove people under FMLA rules but I don't think there was anything concerning providing a position for the person removed. It comes down to taking off the allowed amount of time under FMLA rules and if the individual cannot return to work after that time you are allowed to remove them. It is a non-disciplinary removal for medical reasons.

It is tuff to do but companies/state agencies just cannot let positions vacant for too long before someone starts asking if that position is really necessary or if it can be cut from the budget.

Sorry to hear of your situation. Hope you can get a position when you get all better.

John

Sorry to hear this, but two things occur to me: 1. a surgical technologist is an important job that they feel they have to fill immediately and cannot wait for you to recuperate; and 2. that a surgical technologist is somebody in high demand, so you won't be out of work long. I keep reading that qualified people in health care are always in high demand. I certainly hope this is true for you. Best of luck.

Suz--sorry to hear things appear to be going poorly....but surg techs do not grow on trees, especially good ones! I'm sure you will come thru this stronger and better off...and knowing you, with more custom "toys" now that you have more time to spend on the forums and sites!

Agreed on both counts.
It somehow just doesn't seem right.

Ma'am I am sorry to hear this.

I also believe that all things work for good...

The medical field is one of the few that have not been hit with layoff-itis. I know you will be able to find a new position.

You said exactly what Iwas going to say. I hope whatever you decide to do, that it works out for you.
