Hi,

I will get a Boss Jack and don't really care about the price difference between the CG and LE version, but I don't want both (for now). So which one do you think is better as a one-knife-4-everything-user? What's the difference in balance?? ...and wheight??? ... reliability???? Make my choice and tell me why:

anorexic saber grind vs. thicker full height convex grind.

Thanks,
A-S

LE. It's a no brainer IMO. I didn't even consider the CG--I already have a very similar proto. The LE is better in every way, once again, IMO.

I like the LE but I want the one with the thickest handle -- and this is probably the CG.

Anyone know how the handle thickness will compare to the BJ Protos?

John

even in the 'one knife for everything' catagory there are some questions to ask - how much of your use will trend towards hard use like chopping? how much of your use will trend towards edc use like box cutting or food prep?

if hard use - cg because it will have a bigger burlier blade had weight for chopping
if edc - le because the edge will be thinner and it won't bind on things like boxes, and will feel better during food prep.

You guys are horrible! ;) I really start believing that I need them both. Let's say... which one to get FIRST  :D

It'll be more for rough use. For edc I prefer the folder busse doesn't offer :grumpy:

For me, the CG made more sense. It was cheaper, has the profile I prefer in a convex edge, thicker beefier blade, and I could always strip it and polish it to a near satin finish... or... for less than the difference between the two, I know a few forum members who can do an outstanding satin job. For about $50 a CG can be stripped to an "LE" without a number on it.

I guess it depends too; are you a user or a collector? Would you pay $130 more for a limited edition shovel or torque wrench or tire iron?

I went with an LE choiless.
I used to have proto version and as much as I loved the knife, I hated it's MUCH too thick edge that was good for chopping bricks and nothing else. The convex itself on the proto version was too thickly ground and to improve the edge one would have to remove so much metal, that the blade would look stupid.
That's why I sold my proto. Now I'm very excited about le version - this should be great user. As regards cg version I guess I'll wait for users oppinion on them, especially comparsions with protos. If cg versions are thinner ground - I'm going to buy myself a green cg bj also.

tree herder,,
i had the same problem with my proto.take a look at the website,it says the combat grades are ground flatter/thinner than the proto's.so i think jerry was listening to us:thumbup:

Thanks for the info!!!
Now I'm sure I need one cg also!

I'm pretty sure that all of you are going to be happy how thin onion slices Boss Jack LE can cut. :foot:

Crikey !
I ordered an LE (Black Paper) then stayed up half the night and added a CG (Urban Camo and Black Canvas) to my order.
I feel better now ! ;)

I'm still thinkin' about this...
The CG is only .040" thicker, but flat ground vs. the saber grind.
I'm going to order a black paper handled double cut tomorrow.
I think I'm going with the choil (which I always thought was the part on the pig between the anus and testicles ... no, wait, that's the chuckle ... never mind ;) ).

See at first you would say, you need to get the LE, that saber ground satin and it's much leaner is just a killer combo. But then you think, that CG is dirt cheap plus it's a new edge that they haven't ever done before, a .220" thick with a Full Height Convex ground bevel before it is coated... how can you not get one at that price? And you are all the way across the world, combine the shipping....
How can you not get at least one of each...

Get both and you can thank me later:D.

I'm beginning to think you work for Busse Combat. ;)

The CG is full Convex ground, not flat ground which will likely make it thicker than if it were flat.
