Boss vs Vex?

The Boss looks pretty slick and the price is decent. But I'm trying to decide what it will do for me that my Vex won't do. Can anyone who has both do a pictoral comparison and provide your impression of the pros/cons of each?

Here they are although not together.

Sorry, it's a really crappy pic but here you go:

THe Boss is much larger and thicker and made of infi. Its much bigger. depending on the chore the vex may be better for the task, but the Boss is just that.......

yea i thought about the vex versus the boss street before ordering, if you look at mustard man's pics, they are laying side by side and really to look very close, but there is enough difference that i warranted buying one. obviously the infi steel made a big difference to me as well and the boss street is much less of a recurve as well, check them out side by side in mm's pics...

Recurve?

The Vex has no recurve as I understand the term. One can see from MM's pic that the blade lengths are close, but the BS has a longer handle, and is much stouter of course.

The BOSS St and Vex have very similar blade lengths, but due to the lack of a choil or talon hole, the Vex is much smaller overall.

That makes the Vex, IMHO, a better EDC knife - it is more compact and easier to carry, while carrying just as much blade length, and the lack of a guard doesn't matter because I don't do much stabbing with my EDC knife.

I'm not setting up the light box again, so this crappy pic will have to do....

(for what it's worth, the Vex was my EDC before I got the BOSS Street.... and the Vex is STILL my EDC.)

Id do the same Mustard. The Vex is a really nice edc. Great blade on that one.

Thanks guys. MM's original (small) side-by-side is what promted me to ask, as the blade sizes and shapes appear somewhat similar. In a knife this small, I'm not sure if INFI is that much of a decision maker for me as several good knife steels with Busse's heat treats should be able to do the job. These aint choppers!

I agree, the choil on the Vex is actually very usable. Great for getting close and controlling fine work. Also no wasted space keeping the OAL down, which is important to me for EDC. The Vex is much thinner and therefore probably better for slicing. My primary EDC use is domestic, around camp, light bushcraft, food prep.

Looking at MM's close-up side-by-side, I'm thinking the Boss will be a much better EDC for defensive carry and tougher tasks. Stouter and slightly more agressive blade, guard, more tactical butt.

Hmmmm...

The Vex is awesome. But there is a certain je ne sais qua to the Boss Streets. The Vex is a more compact design, but I hate the spine. Reminiscent of the Meaner. Just not my thing. Probably the only thing stopping me from using mine.

if you gotta ask, it's not a need thing, it's a want thing...

They're ALL Wants!!! Unfortunately these days with money tight it is sometimes a Need thing :(

At least until Want beats the crap out of Need with a baseball bat over the head, and before you know it orders 2-3 anyway :D

But that's what helps keep the secondary active, right?!

I've had both and I like my vex better. Its simpler with more useable features for a knife its size. D2 steel is no slouch for knife steel. The choil is useable and the handle length makes for good manueverability(sp?). I didn't like the handle length for a small knife like the boss. Plus the tiny choil and talon hole were useless. I don't see a need for a guard personally. I think the Vex's simplicity wins in the looks category too.

Maybe something like this at .187 would be the Boss compliment to the Vex? Crappy Paint mock up, but you get the idea...

IMAGE DELETED (Was informed that photochops are not a good idea here.)

Mike, if asked to buy one, I would choose your above version over the stock offering in a heartbeat - it looks great and incorporates my favorite aspect of the Vex - the choil.

With that said, I will be passing on the current BOSS Street offering. Just not digging the talon hole, unusable choil and the read killer is the thickness....

The BOSS reminds me of an original Mean Street on steroids...

Hammy likes...

It is, Hammy, it is!!:thumbup::thumbup: I like it so much that I decided to carry & use one of my BOSS protos. It rides well in a Mashed Cat sheath. :)
