C4: You are indeed fortunate if you have not had problems with Botach. I envy you. I had a long drawn out affair that finally got straightened out. I find that they are OK if I am ordering something which I do not need or want to have right away. Sometimes their low prices do make the difference. However I also have had problems with them. But I continue to order if I can save enough.
I do find it odd that Emerson and others sell their product to Botach since Botach sells below "retailers" cost, to the consumer! Evidently Botach purchases knives as a distributor rather than a "retailer". This way they can tack on a low margin and still be under what a retailer pays for the same knife.
In many other industries, suppliers stop shipping a "retailer" or "internet site" which operates under the pretense of being a distributor. I don't know this for a fact, but most likely Botach has a distributor division as well as their "retail" internet site. This way all purchases are made, by Botach, through their distributor division, at distributor prices. If I were Emerson Knife, I would be very upset at Botach retailing a Commander at $120.00. This is similar to an Emerson Commander being offered in a Walmart ad.
Botach also sells the Cold Steel Ti-Lite for $90.00, which I believe is below retailer's cost.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for free enterprise. Plus I like to buy things I want, at the lowest possible prices. I just find it odd that some suppliers aren't getting upset at these low ball retail prices.
