bottle carriers

I completely agree I have seen that occur several times. Once while backpacking and I watched the guys bottle roll off the trail and fall several hundred feet down the cliff.
That is why I like the sleeve. I can use a biner on the stitched loops rather than the bottle lid.

I used to carry my Nalgene bottles in this:

That was made from some old pants, and some string. It worked as well as any shoulder carrier would, but I got sick of the weight bouncing all over the place, and flopping in my way every time I bent over (and this from a satchel user).

I recently picked up one of the GI canteens with the pouch and steel cup that fits over it. This package is easier to carry, more stable, fits closer to the body, and just feels better to use. I also get the huge bonus of an easily stored pot/cup, and a pouch to store some water tabs in.

Nalgene must have been listening to you! I was going through REI last week, and they now make Nalgene bottles identical to the US GI canteen! I laughed out loud how the circle has come all the way around...

I have a Maxpedition Mini Roly-Poly on my Countycomm EOD Utility Bag to hold a 32 oz. Nalgene. The MRP is attached to the bag with a MALICE clip.

The MRP isn't quite large enough to fit the Olicamp cup that fits over the bottom of a Nalgene, so I have the cup inside the bag with other items inside of it so I don't waste any room.

I went with a canteen as well, with the cup and cover. I'm playing with an idea of how to incorporate a good sized survival kit into the canteen cover, but I can't reveal it until I get it done. Don't want you guys steeling my thunder;)

I use a Nalgene carrier with a velcro-secured belt loop, but it's not padded. I think I've seen padded versions that are different from mine. The one I have is okay, but I didn't trust the velcro to keep the bottle secure, so I sewed it together. I'd like to find a nesting cup for the bottle for my dog to drink out of.

a while ago I got a few folding dog bowls at petco, they're made of thick flexible plastic and work great. For some reason my dog doesn't like to drink out of metal bowls  she will drink from puddles though.

anyway, I just use a carribeaner, but it's pretty annoying when it swing around.

Hi Sodak- Pretty funny about the nalgene GI type canteen. What the heck will a nalgene brand one do that a $1.50 GI surplus canteen won't do?

Hello Johnnyt16 - Just some very good pipe tobacco.

Since I try to keep myself lightweight, I attach the bottle to my backpack near chest area by making a loop using some paracord. So I don't need to take it out from somewhere, just lift the bottle and drink. A lot of people get impressed with this carrier, some even asked me where I bought such a nice bottle carrier :D

Are you talking about the flask? Because that its 12 ounces. I can't find one thats a quart. Maybe I'm just over looking it.

Nope, not the flask. This thing is exactly the same size as a canteen. I'll get a picture of one when I'm there next.

That's weird, they're not on the web site. I'll get a pic and post it as soon as I can.

Is this it? Not available on the REI website and I never saw this a while ago when there was a half-off deal.

You will want to keep an eye on the strap if you use a carabiner. Over time, it will stress to the point of breaking. Had it happen to me. Nose dive onto the parking lot. The lid bit the dust, but the rest of the bottle was fine.

I've seen that happen, probably at least twice. Basically, that's just a really short-term fix, and one not to use if you think you may actually REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE your water stays with you. In other words, not a good thing to rely on for a real survival situation. I know--it's tempting; I've kept doing it, and have kept eventually losing the straps--but the context has always been urban hikes where the stakes were low and other water would be available.

I prefer to use a Mini Rolly poly from maxpedition to hold my nalgene bottle. You can attach it to your pack or you belt with a alice clip. They are cheap and the fit the bottle perfectly.

That's it! They come in black too! I still prefer OD myself, though...

Cool. I don't my using my old issued canteen but I prefer a nalgene bottle for two reasons. Wide mouth so its easy to reach in and wash it out if need be. Clear so you can see just how much you have and what you might be drinking.

Oh yeah, and that wierd taste that all canteens have.

I might have to pick one up. Thanks for the link FLIX

I have to agree on the taste issue... Sometimes regular plastic can be gross... :barf:
