I received my "bottom K" Hiker's Backup today - a day early according to the USPS!

John, I don't know how you do such perfect knives, but I am always happy that you do!

A few pictures - I hope the others that got in on this LE run post some pictures here as well -

My version features a rounded spine, but is otherwise exactly like the original knife.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing! Should make a nice set with your Bottom K Hiker.

I know Heath got his today, Scott will pick his up this weekend. I still have the olive wood one, the customer is currently out of town.

I will take some pictures of them both together tomorrow - good idea!

Oh yeah!

mqqn, what wood did you use for the handles?

Im gonna get mine out this weekend in some sunshine for pics.. The osage john used is nice and bright, for now. :D

Looking good!!! I will definitely post pics here when mine arrives! :D

I like your rounded spine idea on this little guy, I think I'm going to steal that! ;) John, should I send you an e-mail with that request for mine (#6)?

Nice photos Andy!

Jeff

My scales are Garolite - it was what he used on the original Hiker's Backup I believe, and John had said he had a little left over. It is the same material I specified for the XD series knives.

Please do send an email.

I was not able to find a bottom-K hiker in my JK Collection - I have either sold the knife or it is not with the rest of my "Bag of JKs" -

I did take some spine shots of the Backup for Spyder though -

The rounded spin looks really good and very comfortable. The symmetry of the grind where it transitions from flat to round is awesome.

Yes - John makes it look easy - he's a machine!

Ok. It rained all day Saturday, so I spent the day sharpening up my 'bottom K' Hiker's BackUp. I put a 24* degree bevel on the blade and sharpened it up to 600 grit with the Edge Pro. I find that 600 grit is kind of a sweet spot with John's 01 steel. It being a high carbon steel its nice to have a 'toothy' edge by not having a super refined and polished edge.

Anyway, lets just say its sharp! :D

The rest of these pics are me just trying to be 'artsy' taking pictures with my cell phone.

I like that knife rather much!
Maybe it's the "artsy fartsy" pics that have me breathing hard.

Great pictures, guys!

Thanks -

I used my HBu this past weekend to scrap pvc clue from broken connections on my homemade target stands in preparation for re-gluing. Worked great!

Not only is the Osage stunning, but the Red in the mosaic pin really stands out. I might have to get one made like this.

Yeah, I was going for as much contrast between the blade, liners, and handle as I could. I am very happy with the choice, and John's fabrication of course.
