Boudreaux Mauled...

Well, I'd say Vice Versa is true too (at the very least). Its more likely that his attention is opening the atrophied pathways in my brain.....

The thing I have found, and I don't know where Boxers fall on this, but there is a definate breed and individual range to commands and response.

For instance Pyrs. They are bred to be livestock guardian dogs. Independant thinking. You really have to work on them just for "come" and "no"

Border Collies are really smart. My first two were unbelieveable. I could yell "down" at 100 yards and they'd drop and stay there till I said "OK"

The ones I have now will "come" "down" and " set" but they are much more ADD than my other Borders. They are a mother and 2 sons. For instance if you down them and turn your back they will get up. This despite me working harder with them than my originals. Also if they are excited about something and you try to call them back it is very hard to get their attention.

My first two would drive and that was really helpful. The newer ones will not you always have to have the stock between them and you, and they are a bit too agressive and will go in and bite hard rather than nip like my old ones to get them moving.

The whole experience has really taught me how important not only the breed is but the temperment of the particular strain.

Andy,
Sorry to hear about your puppy

one of the only times I actively feuded with the neighbors was over there pittbulls

My kill count is now legendary with that breed of dog (they like to let them out in the country when they cant handle them or they cant fight for crap

ahh good times

Uh, Leatherface, you are speaking feral dogs correct?

Unfortunate there are so many crappy owners. I have owned that breed of dog and they are incredible if they are raise properly.

Hollow, I have friends that breed and train dogs. A breeder has to be ruthless in removing dogs from his breeding program if they aren't everything that is desired from a working standpoint. Most folks aren't willing to do this anymore :grumpy:

hi andy,

sounds like your boo is is all better now, millie's doing fine now too, her swelling has gone down, she's eating normally and the holes have stopped oozing stuff. she's also back to being more active and involved in her previous manner, vet had a look at her today & said she's doing fine and should be completely healed in about a week (she'll have a nice biker chick scar tho to show all the other doggies). no more antibiotics.

I agree. I got Boudreaux from what I thought was a reputable breeder. Then I find out he's got an undecended testacle. A trait passed on from his father which I understand to be 100% of male offspring. Its a health issue too, causes cancer if left un neutered. So they've allowed this male (big pretty boy too) to breed even though he shouldn't be allowed in the gene pool. And they're doing this at the risk of the dogs health.

Boudreaux will be getting fixed at 6 mos.

That's too bad Fiddle. People tend to go with either their emotions or their pocket book when it comes to breeding. I'm glad that your buddy is healed up and doing well :)

Fiddle.
Almost any stud can throw a dog with an undescended testicle.
It's not a big deal unless you bought the dog as a stud.
A real breeder will replace it if you bought it as a breeding animal.

IF I were you I wouldn't fix your dog until after 3 years old when his brain and temperament was fully formed.
I bred/trained work/police dogs 25 years.
I'm very experienced with this problem.
Vets want to fix everything because of irresponsible breeders.
They have a point but the temperament of the dog and his working ability will be changed for no good reason.
I know of many many dogs with an undecended testicle that never got cancer.
I doubt that has anything to do with it.
I'd be more worried about his hips.

I've got him on a great food (Innova Puppy, 23% protien, no corn or wheat, or beet pulp) so I'm not too worried about his hips. My last Boxer got it in the knees real bad. I won't be jumping this one as much.

I'm all about vicious animals. and I don't mean to offend anyone by posting this.

The more they bite and growl, the more I get turned on..

Andy, my friend who breeds/trains protection dogs also recommends waiting until after sexual maturity and final physical growth is completed. However, I didn't wait that long the last time around.

This is not the thread to post this to. :thumbdn: Andy's a good guy and I hate to see animals get hurt.
