Bought a Anvil

I think it has a 5LB mark on the bottom..

I got a better look at the base markings. It is not 5 LB it is ELB. I weighed it and it is 11.6 LB.

Any Ideas on the maker? Age? The bolts holding in the top strike plate are slotted pan heads. I am just curious, not looking to sell, not looking to make money just looking for history.

That looks to me more like an "F", not that I'd know what FLB would mean any more than ELB.

This is an interesting beast. I have never seen an anvil with a bolted top, especially if it isn't welded onto the body in addition to the bolts. Likely just my inexperience. Or, it may not be the original top. It is a pity the face was used for cutting and has left those deep scars. Nonetheless, if you don't get answers here, you might try anvilfire or iforgeiron and post the pics and question there.

Good luck! Very intriguing "oddball". Please let us know if you discover its provenance.

No idea who FLB was.
It looks like an old small bench anvil that someone bolted a plate of mild steel on. You could easily make a new plate, but it is too small and light to use for anything but riveting and pocketknife work.
