Bought A Bk14 Sheath for $3.50

I've used those mixers.

I used them too, to make pizza crusts... A LOT of pizza crust! Although that looks slightly smaller than the one we used.

Dawson, it doesn't look like there is any secondary retention (I might be wrong on that) so I'd say keep a lanyard on your blade so when you throw it in the sheath, wrap the lanyard around it (like a lot of people do with firesteels) and you'd be good to go.

The small "finger-guard" the 14 has provides decent retention, but I just slide the handle into one of my belt loops and that takes care of most walking/ in-town retention that I'd need.. Now if I plan on going innawoods I would swap out to my blaze orange scales and throw on a lanyard for security.
It's crazy how just being around camp can scatter so many little things so easily

@Gassy & @Chameleonbear, that Hobart is the smaller bowl we use, there are a few larger ones but that one is for our smallest mixes.... The low velocity breads, syrups, icings and whips. I'm a production baker so we do have large bowls and do a couple hundred pounds a day of mixing. Plus I bake yesterday's mix off every morning so yeah, it's fun times

So I know this thread is almost dead but I recently took a look at my stitching and felt it was something that I could do better. Haha, for the money I spent I felt it wouldn't hurt with a bit of upkeep. Well here's my re stitch job.

I have been eyeing a Kabar short leather sheath for my 15, and I was curious if the stitching could be relaced. I want to add a ferro rod loop which would mean I would have to remove a bit of the welt, but so be it.

Thanks and good work.

I was thinking about doing that when I was restitching it but I don't have any extra leather right now and couldnt think if anything could substitute for it. The short kabar works great for the 15. I feels very natural and snaps tight for the stock scales.

For 3.95 you could have a belt loop worth of leather and a pocket sheath. You can use the belt loop to make the ferro rod holder.

I think I got what your saying. I'm going to just do another stitch where to loop comes over th top of the sheath cause I can feel that it could use a bit of tightening and make a ferry rod holder out of it

I was saying to buy another and cannibalize it for the leather. You will have some from the (now) spare strap, and a pocket sheath when you are finished.

So how's the retention? I'm in need of a sheath for my 14 and this would be great.

This is true. @allhss, the retention is fine, but I'd use a tension wrap around a belt loop with a lanyard, because it's only ok. I Wasn't happy with the cord they used to hold the thing together though

I ordered one of these (the price was more than $3.50 but still very reasonable) and it came yesterday. So far I am very pleased. It's really small. When I opened the package, I didn't think the blade was going to fit. But, it fits very well. Doesn't feel like much retention but I can hold it by the sheath and shake it upside down without the blade falling out. VERY easy to get the blade in and out. Cross draw on the left front is extremely comfortable and convenient for the BK14.

I do have to say, I miss the positive click when you put the knife in like you get on Kydex or the stock sheath. I have to double check to see if I got it in all the way.

I will probably do something to darken the leather to get a closer match to my belts.

Huh. Where I've looked to get these, the price is approximately 5 dollars more than what the OP paid.

I'm not going to be out on the street if I pay a five spot more than I was initially thinking, but I'm curious if I'm not looking in the right place...? Jungle in South America?

Yeah that's the right spot

@orezona I'd recommend going over the stitching.. Maybe it was just mine but it wasn't healthy looking in my standard.
