I picked the one that looked the sturdiest, tough to do just looking at pics online...oh well, well se if I got ripped, Gene

You may have sold me Mike. I've not tried them yet, and always kinda thought them silly. Maybe I need to re-evlauate.

andy-- check out e.b. primitives on ebay... emil is a very cool guy to deal with.... i think you'll love it......:D

I have an E.B. Primitives fire piston in my BOB. I like that it can sit there for years if necessary and still work like new. I put some wax in a Silencio earplug case and tinder in a small, hard plastic screwtop jar.

It isn't much to look at, and not the smallest set up, but it works every time if loaded and operated correctly.

I'm going to try and make one from brass tonight in my little machine shop. Think I can pull it off. They are amazing! Love the history on the thing.

i had never heard of these, so checked some of the links. looks very cool.

how exactly does it work? the videos show a guy starting a fire, but i found the descriptions a bit vague.

do you need special tinder? or will most anything work?

I got one from michelamcgo. It works great! He has a video that shows how easy it works and sends extra char cloth! Its made of aluminum and machined very well. I suggest you look into it for yourself.

Here's one you can make for yourself for almost no cost. It ain't pretty, but it works and is ultra-cheap. Kind of a poor man's answer to the highly machined and beautiful pistons out there on the net. Personally, I like it....cheap, ugly, works as well as anything out there and you can do it for yourself. I love thumbin' my beak at the pretty boys.

I just bought my first from "Fire Pistons R Us" on eBay, although I haven't heard back yet from the seller re: shipment or anything.

Looks nice, I'll post up my experience with it once it arrives.

Darrel Aune, is a great guy to deal with, I have one of his pistons and a Flint striker knife I asked him to make. Great products! And I *cough* broke my fire piston the first day I got it(totally my fault, I struck the piston at a angle...and well you get the point) and he fixed it and shipped it to me for free. We have been talking about a custom Trade Era knife hes going to make for me...with the elder FUTHARK runs going down the spine...cant wait.Im also going to buy one of his horn pistons:D . But dont worry, you will get your order quick.
