sounds like a good price for oak (depending on species) in your area but it usually takes longer to dry. Bush cords or face?
I've survived on wood heat alone for 10 + years, lots of good advice above already. I split with whatever axe isn't broken. First 2 winters with a short, little axe (first winter felling with a handsaw... starting in November) Some rounds split better with the lighter faster 6lb, some need the 8lb, many are fine with my 5lb felling axe used with some twist. Some make me wish I could find that splitting wedge.
Don't waste your time and energy on weird knots. Put them aside and rip them with a chainsaw
